The Yato no Kami are snake deities appearing in the Hitachi no Kuni Fudoki. They lived in Namegata county, in fields near the government office. They were rumored to bring familial extermination on anyone who saw them, but were eventually killed by a man clearing the fields, enshrined, and banished to the mountains.
Divine snakes written about in the "Hitachi no Kuni Fudoki", whose name means "God of the Night Sword".
They are snake gods said to live in the wetlands near government buildings, and the land around them doesn't experience disasters. It's said that anyone who sees them will bring ruin to their family.
The Yato no Kami legend seems to have originated from the conflict between families that started when the Yamato court extended its power."
