Yamanashi is a character from Persona 5: The Phantom X.
Appearances[]
- Persona 5: The Phantom X: Supporting Character
Design[]
Yamanashi is a middle-aged man with short black hair and brown eyes. He wears dark colored glasses with round fully-rimmed frames. His attire consists of a black suit with a white undershirt and a red and white square-patterned tie.
Personality[]
Yamanashi is a strict man over the school rules because he has a high level of authority at the school, but he easily becomes nervous and frustrated if questioned or called out in any way, even if he stubbornly puts his foot down about whatever is under question and has higher expectations for Riko Tanemura as he tends to push any work he can off to her (and then brag about how capable she is), and is quick to follow Akashi's new policies when they sound like they are in line with what the school wants, without much critical thinking. He is so greedy with the money he wants because the parents paying him bribes also benefited from the transaction. He is also addicted to gambling, and does not want to get divorced as his money would be deprived.
Profile[]
Persona 5: The Phantom X[]
Yamanashi is the academic coordinator of Kokatsu Academy.
"Mission 3: Unconditional Love"[]
Yamanashi is the man who introduced Kei Akashi to the school. Following Akashi's new policy requiring teachers to stay away from students outside classrooms, he pushes his own work to Riko Tanemura and picks on Kumi Katayama for causing issues. Eventually this gets to the point in which he launches a suspension to Katayama after she acts out violently to Akashi.
When Riko begins to fight back Akashi, Yamanashi is outraged, fearing his own reputation is at risk. He panics more when he finds a post of him and Riko on Divine Justice and rumors about him accepting bribes from Riko. He turns to Akashi and gets lured to disclose his secrets, falling into Akashi's trap.
In Katayama's Palace, Yamanashi's Shadow Self is trapped inside a mouse wheel-like contraption and forced to run continuously to generate power for the Palace. The Phantom Thieves meet him during their exploration, and learn from his own words that Yamanashi has been accepting bribes from rich parents to enroll their children in Kokatsu and manipulating their scores due to his gambling addiction. The group manages to get the direction to Akashi's Palace from him, but only promise to save him later.
After the group sends the Calling Card to Akashi, they head to have the showdown against Shadow Akashi. They first set Shadow Yamanashi free so that Akashi can no longer absorb power from the Palace. Riko expresses her sincere thoughts to Shadow Yamanashi, hoping he could recall what made him want to become a teacher, and encourages him to change his ways. Regaining his true heart, Shadow Yamanashi is convinced to face his wrongdoings and start over in reality, then disappear from the Palace after thanking the group.
After defeating Akashi, it is mentioned that Yamanashi has turned himself in to the police. He is now suspended from work.
"Mission 4: Melancholy of the Masked Actor"[]
During the meeting with Kiga drama club, Riko reveals that the stage play collaboration between Kokatsu and Kiga was proposed by Yamanashi and Akashi before she could know about it.
