A Japanese god of disease and disaster, along with Hoso-gami, bearers of pestilence and death. They were reputed, however, to loathe both dogs and the color red, leading to the fabrication of dolls fashioned in red colors to banish them. Jizos, small protectors of children, also wore red to banish Yakubyou-gami.
