Walking Koromaru

Walking Koromaru, or simply Walking, is a Daily Life activity featured in the Persona 3 series.

Overview

Walking Koromaru is an activity that can only be accessed at night. The protagonists can take Koromaru for a walk by talking to him inside the Dorm. This activity is unlocked on August 9th after arriving at the dorm, Mitsuru Kirijo will inform the protagonist that they should take responsibility for Koromaru and take them out for a walk during some days of the week. In Portable, if Koromaru is standing up in the dorm, it signifies that he wants to go for a walk and if found sitting, he does not want to go out that night. In Reload however, he has a head icon of himself when available to take for a walk. The main gimmick of taking Koromaru for a walk is usually to get Social Link points and get items found by him.

If playing as the male protagonist in any version, they usually encounter Social Link characters from his school. Encountering them will give the protagonist +3 Social Link Points. In Persona 3 FES, the protagonist does not get any Social Link Points for any party member. However, this was changed in Portable as the protagonist can now get Social Link Points from S.E.E.S. female party members. Going out with male party members however, does not reward any item or Social Link points, since the protagonist cannot form a bond with them.

In Persona 3 Portable, the female protagonist usually always goes out with another dorm mate and on rare occasions, another Social Link from school or outside school. Unlike in Persona 3 FES, the female protagonist will always get Social Links points, since she can form a bond with every party member compared to the male protagonist who can only form with the female party members.

Walking Koromaru is the only way to get Social Link Points at night since you are usually unable to visit other places that would otherwise help the protagonist increase them (the only exception being Persona 3 Reload since the protagonist may get Social Link points during Combat Characteristic events if the protagonist has already initiated a female party member's Social Link. These events do not require a matching Persona and will always reward the protagonist with Max Social Link points. On some occasions, Aigis will go out with you to walk Koromaru but does not get any points since her Social Link is yet to be unlocked during that point of the story.

In Persona 3 Reload, on 8/20 when taking Koromaru out, you will unlock Takaya Sakaki's 2nd Linked Episode which will be automatic. The protagonist will receive a Folded Paper which reveals some information about Strega's past and the Kirijo Group. This is the only time you are forced to take Koromaru out for a walk.
