"The train of oddballs just keeps on rolling..."
—Morgana, Persona 5
Train of Life is a Retro Game item.
Effect[]
Train of Life can be played during the protagonist's daily life. The full game is split in 3 chapters, with each requiring a single session to be completed; if a chapter isn't completed, it'll have to be done from the beginning.
The gameplay of Train of Life involves rolling two die to accumulate a specific sum. One general pattern is that he can roll more than once:
- For the first session, the protagonist is required to roll a "secret number" or higher, and has three chances to roll. The secret number isn't revealed until the end, so he's given the choice to reroll if still possible. Only after the first run is the secret number revealed to be 8.
- The chances of not getting an 8 or higher in 3 rolls is roughly ~20%.
- For the second session, the protagonist is required to roll 3, 5, 7 or 9 and has 3 chances. The protagonist wins as soon as he rolls one of those.
- The chance of not getting any necessary number in 3 rolls is roughly ~30%.
- For the third session, the protagonist is required to roll 4, 8 or 12 (multiples of 4.) and has 4 chances. The protagonist wins as soon as he rolls one of those.
- The chance of not getting any necessary number in 4 rolls is roughly ~31%.
- The chance of passing through the entire game in 1 run without any failure is roughly ~38.5%
- If using cheats, the number rolls for each session is increased to 5, 5 and 6 respectively.
For each completed session of Train of Life, the protagonist will receive 2 notes of Kindness, but only 1 if he fails. Upon completing the entire game, he will also receive a Railroad Card, a redeemable item.

First play | Second play onward
Morgana | First off is the novice course. Ah, I see. Not only do the dice rolls move you forward, you can also use them to buy properties. I think things are going well right now. You could probably finish in first at this rate. Huh? There's something strange up ahead. Is that... an octopus? |
Why don't we start on the novice course? We can beat it this time. It seems like things are going well for the time being. Let's just hope nothing changes... Wait, this silhouette... Could it be...?
Octavius | Blorp! My name is Octavius! I'll let you go if you can satisfy me, blorp! You'll have three chances, blorp!
Morgana | Does this guy exist just to get in our way...? | There he is... Octavius. You know the secret number, right?
Octavius | If you can roll my favorite secret number or higher, I'll let you pass, blorp! You can roll the dice up to three times if you want, blorp! You'll never guess my secret number though... Blorp! |
- | |
Morgana | So we need to roll at least his secret number...? But he didn't even give us a hint... I guess we should just try to get the highest number possible. |
- | |
Octavius | Well then, here's your first roll, blorp!
Push X button to stop 2 randomly-generated dice. Final sum must be equal to or higher than 8, Octavius' secret number.
Octavius (If not on third roll) | Hm... [Sum], blorp... Do you want to go with this number, blorp?
Protagonist's dialogue options: | >Stay with this number >Reroll
If reroll, rolls +1. | |||
Octavius (if rerolling, and rolls =/= 3) | Very well, say goodbye to roll number [ROLLS-1], blorp. Here we go on to roll number [ROLLS], blorp! (reroll)
Octavius (if rolls = 3) | Hm... [SUM], blorp... You don't have any more rerolls, so you're stuck with this number, blorp! (move forward)
Octavius (if having chosen to stay with number) | OK then, your number is [Sum], blorp! As for the secret number... do you remember my name, blorp? It's Octavius... Octa, as in the number eight! Gluhuhuhu!
Octavius (if victory) | Glorg, you've bested my secret number trial! I guess I'll be retreating then, blorp!
Morgana | Huh, Ocravius writhed away into the sunset... All right, let's head onward to the goal!
Octavius (if loss) | Gloooohoohoo! You lose, blorp! I'll have to take you all the way back to the beginning, blorp!
Morgana | Man... So the secret number was eight the whole time... | Shoot... We lost even though we knew the secret number going in...
Morgana | We've been sent back to the very first space on the board. There's no coming back from this.
Morgana (post-victory) | We made it to the finish line in first place... What a battle! My paws are all sweaty...! Well, it seems you learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests.
Morgana (post-failure) | We failed... But it seems you at least learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests. I wish there was a way to make this game a little easier... |
Second Session[]

First play | Second play onward
Morgana | Next up is the intermediate course. Awesome, we're starting off well... and we have a good amount of money too! This intermediate course is looking pretty simple... Wait, there's something rising up out of the ground... Is that a gate? We can't pass through... |
OK, let's start the intermediate course. It seems like things are going well for the time being. Let's just hope nothing changes... Wait, something's coming out of the ground... Could it be...? |
Alligater | Snap snap snap! I'm the alligator who watches over this gate... hence why they call me Alligater! Give me a number to open the gate, snap! I'll give you three chances, snap!
Morgana | Another one of these weirdos... We're so unlucky... | There it is... the Alligater. Don't lose to it this time. |
Alligater | So, the numbers that open this lock are three, five, seven, and nine, snap! Roll two dice and make sure they add up to one of those, snap! I'll give you three chances, snap!
Morgana | So this all depends on your luck... I think you can do it! | - |
Alligater | Time for the first roll, snap!
Push X button to stop 2 randomly-generated dice. Final sum must be equal to 3, 5, 7 or 9. Rolls -1
Alligater (If not a correct roll; [Rolls] > 0) | That's not one of my numbers, snap! The number of chances you have remaining is [ROLLS], snap! (Reroll)
Morgana (If a correct roll) | Oh, you rolled a [Sum]!
Alligater | You... You're impressive, snap! I'll let you through, snap!
Alligater (If not a correct roll; [Rolls] = 0) | Snap snap snap! You lose, snap! Well, I'll be sleeping here, snap! Good night... Snap...
Morgana | It looks like we failed... I underestimated how hard it would be to get those numbers. We'd have to take a detour if we wanted to get by... I don't think we can recover from this.
Morgana | Oooh... The gate's opening! All right, let's head onward to the goal!
Morgana (post-victory, no cheats) | We made it to the finish line in first place... What a battle! My paws are all sweaty...! Well, it seems you learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests.
Morgana (post-failure) | We failed... But it seems you at least learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests. |
Third Session[]

First play | Second play onward
Morgana | The advanced course is the only one left. Let's go for gold! Our opponents are extra tough, since it's our last level... But I think things are going well for now... We'll probably end up in first place at this rate! Shoot, a hole opened up in the ground and swallowed our piece... Wait, is that some kind of gun!? |
All right... Time for the advanced course. It seems like things are going well for the time being. Let's just hope nothing changes... Here comes the hole... and that Artie guy too, I'm sure... |
Artie Lury | The name's Artie... Artie Lury, the free-wheeling cannon! If you don't give me a number I like, I'm gonna blast you all the way back to the beginning!
Morgana | The train of oddballs just keeps on rolling... | He's back... |
Artie Lury | I'm all for multiples of four! That means you can get either four, eight or twelve! Basically, if the sum of the two dice you roll is a multiple of four, you win! Naturally, you'll have four shots at it. Now if you win, let's see... I'll blast you to the finish line!
Morgana | Wait, so we can get all the way to the goal if we beat it...? Let's go, <Protagonist>! | - |
Artie Lury | Here comes the first roll!
Push X button to stop 2 randomly-generated dice. Final sum must be equal to 4, 8 or 12. Rolls -1
Artie Lury (If not a correct roll, [Rolls]>0) | [Sum], huh? Sorry, but that's not a multiple of four. Your number of chances remaining is [Rolls]! (reroll)
Artie Lury (If not a correct roll, [Rolls]==0) | What's this!? You seriously can't scrounge together a multiple of four for me!? Guess I'm just gonna have to shoot you back to the start then!
Morgana | The arc on that shot is a real sight to behold... We're all the way back at the beginning... There's definitely no coming back from this...
Morgana (If a correct roll) | Whoa, [Sum]! You did it!
Artie Lury | Hey, you did it! As I promised, I'll shoot you on over to the finish line!
Morgana | Whoa, all the way to the end in an instant...!
Morgana (post-victory, no cheats) | We made it to the finish line in first place... What a battle! My paws are all sweaty...! Well, it seems you learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests. We cleared all the stages in Train of Life now. All right, let's enjoy this ending!
Morgana (post-failure) | We failed... But it seems you at least learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests. |

First time | Second time onward
Morgana (before a session starts) | By the way, haven't you read that secret technique book? | - |
Morgana | If I remember correctly, I think you can roll the dice more times, increasing your chance of victory. | So, should we use the trick? It'll let you roll the dice more times than normal. |
>Use the technique. (Response 1) >Play the game normally. (Response 2)
Morgana (Response 1) | I see... I guess I understand how you might be frustrated about not being able to beat the game.
Morgana (Response 2) | Spoken like a true warrior. Good luck!
Morgana (Before starting to roll the first time; Session 1) | It seems like the technique is in effect... You can now roll the dice [X] times instead.
Morgana (post-victory, cheats) | It was't really very exciting with that technique... But it seems you at least learned how to have a big heart even in the face of brutally unfair requests.
Morgana (post-failure, cheats) | Is it too tough for you? We'll just have to try again next time! |
