Devil-Survivor-2-DS-19

Alioth hovering over Tokyo Tower in Devil Survivor 2

The Tokyo Tower (東京タワー, Tōkyō Tawā)? is a location in the series.

History[]

Tokyo Tower is a 1,092-foot (332.9 meters) tall communications and observations tower constructed in 1958 in the Shiba-Koen district of Minato, Japan. It is the second-tallest structure in Japan, designed to be a symbol of Japan's booming status as an economic powerhouse and taking inspiration from the Eiffel Tower of France. It serves as a major landmark of Japan, represented in tourism and major media, visible both at night and during the day.

Appearances[]

Profile[]

Megami Tensei II[]

The witch that betrayed Pazuzu can be found here, but a fence blocks the entrance, which only Orthrus can destroy. Once the protagonist and his friend meet the witch, she reveals that they are being manipulated by Pazuzu so he can take over Tokyo. His friend refuses to believe this, however, and leaves the protagonist, taking Orthrus, Solomon's Ring, and half of the Macca with him. The witch joins the protagonist in his place.

Shin Megami Tensei[]

An optional fight against Kazfiel takes place here.

Shin Megami Tensei IV[]

Tokyo Tower is physically present, but cannot be explored. However, relics can be found by examining it. The Challenge Quest Retrieve the Tablet is completed by fighting an Anzu Horde here.

Shin Megami Tensei V[]

SMT5 Minato TokyoTower

The Tokyo Tower in Shin Megami Tensei V.

Tokyo Tower is visited at the behest of Aogami, who asks the protagonist to visit the site in order to recover his memories. After arriving, he sees a vision of the heavenly host confronting Lucifer and his army of chaos demons. Afterwards, the protagonist will be set upon by the Hydra, which has come to be known as the demon of the tower by other demons in the area, with a reputation for attacking any demon that wanders too close to its area. After defeating the Hydra, the protagonist will be met with Goko, who gives them a Return Pillar and advises the protagonist to seek shelter with the angels of Bethel. Afterward, Amanozako will claim to have seen an angel in the city below, leading to the "The Angel's Trail" main quest.

Persona 5 Strikers[]

EMMA's server is located in Tokyo Tower. After returning from Osaka to Tokyo, EMMA awakens there and creates the final Jail of the Abyss, where Kuon Ichinose is deployed to confront the party. Once she is defeated and joins their investigation, the entirety of Japan is blacked out and a beacon of light erupts from it, turning Tokyo Tower into the Tree of Knowledge where people receive their salvation by the Ark of the Covenant to the promised land.

Trivia[]

P5 TokyoTower

The lit Tokyo Tower on the night of May 5th, 2016.

  • During the promotion of Persona 5, a special stream was held on May 5th, 2016, with the tagline "We're going to take Tokyo Tower." (東京タワーを頂きます*)? During the event, the protagonist was recorded scaling Tokyo Tower from the side, and when he made it to the top, it was lit in red.[1][2]
  • In Shin Megami Tensei V, a Miman alludes to the tower containing tanks. A third of the steel used to construct Tokyo Tower was scrap metal taken from US tanks that had been damaged in the Korean War.
