Titanium was first discovered in 1790 by William Gregor, an English clergyman and chemist, though it didn't enter the manufacturing scene until the early 1900s. Before it was called titanium, the metal was known as gregorite, after Gregor. Separately, a German chemist named Martin Heinrich Klaproth discovered the material a few years later and subsequently called it titanium after the Titans of Greek mythology. In 1910, Matthew Hunter, a U.S. metallurgist, started generating titanium domestically, and it became prominent on the manufacturing scene. The metal found its place in the periodic table as element 22, and it's useful in a wide range of industries due to its high strength, resistance to rust and corrosion, and compatibility with medical applications for the human body.
A wrench is a tool used to provide grip and mechanical advantage in applying torque to turn objects—usually rotary fasteners, such as nuts and bolts, or keep them from turning. The most common shapes are called open-end wrench and box-end wrench. Wrenches have been noted by historians as far back as the 15th century.
"Wrench" is derived from Middle English wrench, from Old English wrenċ, from Proto-Germanic wrankiz ("a turning, twisting"). The term was first used in 1790.
