Thieves Den

The protagonist in the Thieves Den, Persona 5 Royal.

The Thieves Den, also known as My Palace (マイパレス, Mai Paresu)^? in Japanese, is a location and mechanic in Persona 5 Royal. It is presented as the protagonist's Palace and acts as the game's gallery room.

Profile

The Thieves Den can be used as a hub for the protagonist, being the place where his memories manifest. Jose also appears at the front entrance, acting as the guide. In order to unlock the Thieves Den, at least one playthrough of Persona 5 Royal must go past the 5th of May, the date where the Phantom Thieves were formed in their Wilton Hotel buffet celebration.

All data in the Thieves Den is universally shared among all Persona 5 Royal save files, so the player does not need multiple playthroughs to unlock all available features and achievements.

Transformation

The protagonist can temporarily transform himself into other members of the Phantom Thieves while in the Thieves Den. This can be done by stepping on special tiles of each character on the second floor. By stepping on and off a tile, the protagonist can switch between different costumes and appearances of the same character. Additional transformations will be unlocked as the game processes, including the Mouse forms (except for Futaba, Akechi, and Sumire), and Morgana's human form. The transformation can be cancelled at the protagonist's discretion, or by interacting with facilities in the Den.

These panels are unlocked after the respective Phantom Thief is recruited for the first time, with Sumire's being unlocked during the Third Semester Arc.

Palace Maker

The Thieves Den can be decorated with various items related to Joker's journey through the game. This includes statues of Palace rulers in their respective boss fights, cognitive beings, and the Personas of the Phantom Thieves. In addition, as the Thieves Den is being decorated with items, friends who the protagonist has deepened ties with may appear as cognitive entities. As well as conversations related to items, it is also possible to listen to conversations between characters who otherwise have little contact in the story.

Initially bound to the Phantom Thieves, the roster will expand to all of Joker's Confidants after beating Yaldabaoth for the base ending or Maruki for the Royal ending.

While most items in the Palace Maker becomes available naturally as the game progresses or by maxing out Confidants, certain items have a different requirement.

Awards

Achievements will be transformed into awards and will be displayed on the walls of the Thieves Den as 3D images. They are sorted in 4 categories: School Life, Confidant, Battle and Phantom. Unlocking awards will give the protagonist P Medals. The total number of P Medals that can be obtained from awards alone is 2,420.

If all the awards are unlocked, Jose will send an Invisible Veil and Letter of Royalty to the protagonist's room in Leblanc. The Veil, once equipped, prevents Shadows from detecting the protagonist in the Metaverse, while the Letter allows the protagonist to summon all of his acquired Personas for free.

• ^[21] Persona XP growth is significantly slower than the protagonist's XP growth, so repeated usage of the Gallows is strongly recommended, especially when a Fusion alarm is active, as Gallows Accidents always provide a boost to stats.
• ^[22] The protagonist can only ambush enemies with the Grappling Hook after the Faith Confidant with Sumire reaches Rank 4.

Gallery

Similar to Persona 4 Golden's TV Listing feature, the Thieves Den includes a gallery feature, which is divided between both an art gallery and a cutscene gallery. Individual media needs to be bought with P Medals:

  • Archives: The protagonist can view various images and sprites from the game.
  • Concept Art: The protagonist can view concept art from the game.
  • Special: The protagonist can view various promotional art related to the game.
• Movie:
  • Archives: The protagonist can view cinematic and animated cutscenes, which is categorized into the arcs they debuted in, as well as the various Showtime cinematics. Performing each of the Showtime attacks unlocks them for purchase in the Den. All cutscenes in the Archives cost 5P.
  • PV: A collection of previous PV trailers that advertised Persona 5 and Royal. These videos might come from atlustube, Atlus' Japanese YouTube channel; as well as opening and ending movies from the anime. These videos are in Japanese without subtitles.
    • In the Switch version of Royal, only the OP for Persona 5 The Animation The Day Breakers is available for purchase in the Thieves Den.
  • Special: A collection of past live concerts. These videos are in Japanese without subtitles.

The player needs to personally encounter any in-game cinematic and animated cutscene to unlock them for purchase, including the base ending of Persona 5 (triggered when the Councillor Confidant is not maxed prior to November 18) and the artwork displayed on the credits of the bad ending available on either January 9 or February 2. It is advised to reload saves to fully unlock the Thieves Den instead of starting multiple playthroughs.

Music

Placed between the Palace Maker and the School Life section of the Awards walls is the Music selection. Composed of 5 audio display kiosks, this section holds an mostly complete collection of music from both the original Persona 5 and the new Royal soundtracks, which have been sorted in 4 categories: Story, Daily, Battle and Dungeon.

Just like the Palace Maker, while most tracks are unlocked as players naturally progress through the story, certain items have a different requirement.

• The vocal version of No More What Ifs is unlocked by catching the singer of Jazz Jin live.
• He's a Trickster☆ is unlocked by completing the Third Semester-exclusive Mementos Request "An Idol and an Unicorn" then return to Akihabara and talk to Lilina afterwards.
• Hoshi To Bokura To is unlocked by completing the Persona 5 ending.
• Bokura no Hikari, listed as its translated name "Our Light", is unlocked by completing the Persona 5 Royal ending.

Tycoon

The protagonist can play the card game Daifugō (大富豪^*)^?, known as Tycoon in the Western release, with three members of the Phantom Thieves within the Play Area, nestled between the Award walls for the Battle and Phantom subsections. The player is able to randomly change out which of the Phantom Thieves they can play against by selecting "Change Opponents", or backing out of playing. There are three difficulties: "Let's keep it casual" (Easy), "Let's play seriously" (Medium), and "Let's play a cutthroat game" (Hard).

Unlike the other areas of the Thieves Den, the Tycoon area is strictly recreational, and playing it does nothing toward actual completion other than a way to grind for P Medals outside of the Awards. The amount of P Medals players wins from Tycoon is dependent on the difficulty and the final ranking one gets at the end of the three rounds of the card game.

• It costs 2,135 P Medals to buy everything in the PS4 version of the Thieves Den, which can be earned by clearing a majority of the Den achievements.
• The hole Jose created from smashing through the wall with his car is never truly fixed, and will remain shoddily covered up by wooden planks indefinitely.

Unknown Graffiti seen on the topmost floor of the Thieves Den.

• On the topmost floor of the Thieves Den, there is mysterious graffiti of six stars on one of the walls. It is heavily implied to be drawn by Jose, though its purpose, outside of giving character to the otherwise sparse second floor, is unknown.
• Sumire Yoshizawa will always be referred to by her real name because completing the true ending of the game, where she accepts herself, is required to unlock her presence in the Den.
  • Should Sumire's Confidant go unfinished by the end of the Third Semester, her hair will be kept down and she'll be wearing glasses, while if you do complete her Confidant, her hair will be tied up (as tribute to Kasumi) forever regardless of save file.
• Futaba or Haru will not be chosen in the same table as Akechi during a game of Tycoon.
• Morgana can assume his human form in the Thieves Den.
• It is possible to miss the Chatroom images for the Gallery, which entails players having a figurative lead foot on the fast forward button and not scroll back for it.
• In order to unlock the cut in portraits and All Out Attack finisher portraits for the Twins and Lavenza in the Gallery, they have to have Downed all the Thieves organically. Being hit with the All Out Attack variant reserved for failing to do enough damage/fulfill certain conditions will not count towards unlocking them.
