History[edit | edit source]
Thermopylae is a mountain pass in southern Greece. It was the site of a famous battle where a Greek army stalled an invading Persian force. During the third day of battle, three hundred Spartans and seven hundred Thespians made their final stand against the Persian army to allow the rest of the Greek force to retreat.
Effect[edit | edit source]
Thermopylae raises the party's Attack, Defense and Agility for 3 turns. It can only be used if the party is being ambushed. (Letting a Shadow run into the party instead of ambushing a Shadow and taking off its mask.) As being ambushed is dangerous and tends to be easy to avoid, as well as the fact that boss battles do not involve ambushes, Thermopylae is only infrequently useful. However, Thermopylae can be used to great effect against the Reaper, giving the player access to a cheap and useful mass party buff in an otherwise drawn-out battle.
If any enemy Shadows have Thermopylae (such as Dionysus), they can activate it if the player ambushed them.
In Royal, the Persona Trait Vitality of the Tree will allow Thermoplyae to be used in situations where it cannot be used otherwise. However, this newfound versatility is still outmatched by Orpheus's Neo Cadenza, which uses less SP (with identical buffs), heals the users team, and saves Orpheus's Persona Trait slot.
