Tehom is a demon in the series.
History[]
Tehom is a biblical Hebrew word that literally means "the abyss." It describes the void that existed prior to creation.
Appearances[]
Profile[]
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance[]
"The state of chaos before the birth of order, described in Genesis 1:2. Its name means "the deep" in Hebrew.
There is a theory that the process by which God divided heaven and earth into two is related to the process by which Marduk divided Tiamat's body into two parts to create the world in Babylonian mythology."
In the Canon of Vengenance's Law Route, after Tiamat has been defeated, Yoko Hiromine will sacrifice her life to summon Tehom, the Living Abyss. After being defeated, it does not dissolve into Magatsuhi, but instead its head merges back and it vanishes into the void. The protagonist will return to the Throne Room after the battle and Lucifer will await as the final boss.
Tehom is never seen nor fought in the Chaos-Vengeance route. In that Route, Mastema will directly challenge the protagonist to a battle in its place. It is also not a summonable demon.
Stats[]
- Penultimate boss of Vengeance-Law Route. There is a free action window between Tiamat and this encounter, so make sure to prepare and stock up supplies before confronting.
- If a weakness is hit, that affinity will become drain at the start of its next turn and it will retaliate using -barion spells of the same attribute. If no weakness is hit during a turn, it will use Abyssal Beckoning, Dekaja, Dekunda, or Megidolaon.
- If all available weaknesses are turned into Drain, it will use Inception of Chaos and reset all affinities on the next turn (telegraphed).
- It will start using Catastrophe alongside its -barions after it uses Inception of Chaos the first time, and it adds Megidolaon after the second time.
- Tehom will occasionally end its turns "watching," and will always waste an entire turn this way after Inception of Chaos.

Trivia[]
- Tehom's design is primarily based on Tiamat's mythology, specifically the idea of her body being split in two to create the world, in keeping with the link established by Tehom's in-game lore entry.
- This design also has vague similarities with Merkabah's second form from Shin Megami Tensei IV, Shekinah from Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, and Persephone's design throughout the Megami Tensei series.
- Tehom's idle pose resembles the protagonist's Wrath Tempest pose.
- Tehom's battle theme in Vengeance is a synthwave remix of Yoko's theme.
- Albeit localized differently, Tehom's Void race shares the same Japanese name (虚大霊, Kyo Dairei)? with Mem Aleph's second form, which is localized as the Empty race in English.
- As Tehom's HP drops below a certain threshold, it will start to fade away, as if disappearing back into the deep from which it came.
