Takeyuki Kiuchi is a character from Persona 5: The Phantom X.

Appearances[]

Design[]

Kiuchi appears to be a typical Japanese business man with slick, black hair and dark eyes.

His Shadow Self wears pink heart-shaped glasses, a baseball uniform with matching shorts, and a pink jockstrap with the word "BASEBALL" written on it. His shoes and shirt are both shaped like hearts, and his shoulder pads resemble baseballs. His skin tone changes to that of a bright pink color.

During the second phase of his boss fight, Kiuchi transforms into Lord Cupid, which appears as a demonic and muscular being with dripping tongue-like wings, a white baseball cap with a halo above it, a pair of pink buttoned white underpants with an innertube with a mounted cannon on the front, and a pair of white shoes and fishnet stockings. He is armed with a golden bow and arrows with a heart-shaped head and a fletching that looks similar to Slipping Hablerie.

Personality[]

Kiuchi is a vengeful, arrogant, prideful and lustful man who has a reputation as a womanizer, and is known to attack, hurt, bully and harass females he sees at train station. When Kiuchi was a baseball player, he proudly believes he doesn't practice baseball and claiming he’s already a great baseball player. Kiuchi hates Motoha with a passion for humiliating him in the baseball game when she was a little girl. Moreover, he lost his career as a baseball player and has his career as an office worker after he was caught hitting on the lady at the bar on a tabloid. These incidents have led to his continuous grudge and desire of control towards women.

Kiuchi also seems rather callous, showing indifference towards the harm he causes women, shown by how he pushed Tomoko onto the train tracks to get back at Motoha. But once his Shadow was defeated and the treasure was successfully taken, he had a Change of Heart feeling remorse about what he done to hurt women, confesses his crimes against them and turns himself over to the police.

Profile[]

Persona 5: The Phantom X[]

Kiuchi first appears in Shibuya Station walking to get on a train, while he accidentally bumps into the protagonist getting off the train. Realizing this, he politely raises his hand with a gentle smile as a sign of apology. When he is walking in the station and sees a woman passing him, however, he suddenly feels an eccentrically strong impulse to attack her, which possibly has led to the very first bumping of him.

By the time of his second appearance, Kiuchi has already developed an evil desire to violently bump into women that seems weak and less resistant, which also made him "famous" on Magatsushin as "The Bumping Man," one of the certified Phantoms.

He sees the protagonist, Motoha Arai and Tomoko Noge chatting together, and later recognizes Motoha in front of the Hachiko statue. He expresses his anger and will to seek revenge towrds Motoha. The next morning, he attempts to push Motoha into the train tracks but succeeds in pushing Tomoko instead because she wanted to protect Motoha, which causes a severe injure to her shoulder. Motoha is unable to get him arrested because of lack of evidence and witnesses, and Kiuchi later taunts her about it.

When the protagonist and Ruferu venture through his Palace, they learn that Kiuchi was a former baseball player who was humiliated out of his career after Motoha scored a home run against him and he got himself in trouble for hitting on a lady at the bar 10 years ago, and he still holds a grudge against her for years. The two runs into Shadow Kiuchi, the Palace owner, torturing Motoha who accidentally enters Metaverse following them. Shadow Kiuchi keeps traumatizing Motoha, trying to break her apart mentally, but fails and ends up with Motoha awakening her Persona Awilda.

Motoha later joins the protagonist and Ruferu's party. The three has come to an agreement that they must change Kiuchi's heart. With the protagonist designing the icon and Motoha elaborating the warning statement, they make a bunch of Calling Cards for the action. Catching the time when Kiuchi passes by Shibuya Station Square, Ruferu spreads the cards from the sky so that he can read the warning for sure. Other people at the square also read the card and recognize Kiuchi, making him embarrassed and furious. His treasure is then materialized in his palace.

When the protagonist, Ruferu and Motoha invade Kiuchi's Palace trying to steal his treasure to change his heart, Shadow Kiuchi transforms into Lord Cupid to fight against them, but eventually gets defeated. After the battle, Shadow Kiuchi confesses his inner thoughts and regret, having no idea of how to keep on his living after this. However, Motoha realizes he still loves baseball. She encourages him to confront his wrongdoings and take responsibility for his actions to atone, while holding a goal of becoming a baseball instructor bringing dreams to children. Shadow Kiuchi disappears after understanding her words.

When the three come back to the real world, they see Kiuchi is being taken away by the police and learn that Kiuchi has confessed his crime and turned himself in.

After Motoha mentions that they did well to stop Kiuchi before his actions escalated, the protagonist sees a vision of Kiuchi laughing maniacally as he was arrested by the police, ranting that he had killed someone. This is connected to his previous vision in which Kiuchi bumped into a lady walking with her baby in a stroller, causing the stroller falling down the stairs and having the baby killed. Suggestively, this is what would have happened if they hadn't changed his heart.

Trivia[]

  • Kiuchi's aggression and deliberately attack women in the station might be inspired from "Bumping Man (Butsukari otoko)," referring a phenomenon in Japan when a man deliberately carrying out ramming attacks specifically targeting women in train stations.
