Summoner is an Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.
History[]
"In times of yore, there lived heroes who summoned otherworldly beings to fight on their behalf. Their souls together form the power of the Summoner. Among them, the master of invocations, devotee of the most eldritch of summoning arts, I dub the Devil Summoner. The Summoner Archetype uses vessels to summon unearthly beings to the battlefield as its servants with a unique form of magic. However, in order to prove their mastery, they must take time and effort to gather servants before true power can be unleashed. Let no Summoner forget this truth."
Profile[]
"The Origin Summoner Archetype. By using items called Vessels, it can summon monsters to perform a variety of roles from damage to healing. Vessels can be created by selecting "Special Experiments" in Akademeia after acquiring the requisite materials from stalls or enemy drops."
The Summoner is the ninth story-unlocked Archetype in the game, awakening within the sixth party member Euphausia Etoreika after Hulkenberg helped her overcome her shaken faith when it turned out Dragon God Eht had a parasitic human known as Homo Margo on its back and how the sacrifices of the mustari priestesses before her were done due to a distortion of the truth and should never had happened. Progression with the Summoner lineage is maintained with the protagonist's bond with Eupha, with said bond also allowing his party to access the Archetype for themselves as well.
The Summoner functions uniquely that it doesn't learn any skills while ranking up with the exception of its two regular skills and two Synthesis Skills upon Eupha's awakening, but rather the skills are crafted individually with the use of ingredients called "Talismans" in Akademeia's Special Experiments service to craft "Vessels," which unlocks that specific skill for all Summoners to use. Once the vessel is made, the Summoner, true to its name, summons monsters themed after the vessels to perform attacking or healing skills. Though the Summoner is a magically powerful Archetype, its weakness comes from the innate necessity to craft said skills first, otherwise the Summoner lacks offensive and supportive variety. Due to this crafting system, this makes it impossible to inherit skills from the Summoner onto other Archetypes.
In terms of Synthesis synergy for itself, the Summoner Archetype is unique in that it shines in a varied team composition: none of its Synthesis skills share an Archetype, allowing for more varied team comps that don't need to be centered around the Summoner.
