Summon Dolls (人形を召喚?) are items found in the Shin Megami Tensei series.

Appearences[]

Profile[]

They are needed to open a gate to the Expanse or summon a powerful demon by people who do not have a COMP. There are five of them: Angry Doll (red), Crying Doll (blue), Happy Doll (yellow), Dancing Doll (black) and Sleepy Doll (green).

Shin Megami Tensei II[]

The Summon Dolls appears as an important plot element in the game. They are under the possession of Hanada, and are used to open a passage to the Expanse. The first time they're seen, Hanada uses them in his research to check whether demons are real or not. After being forbidden by Madam, he escapes to Valhalla's Slums and continues his experiments there. Later, Madam sends Aleph and Hiroko to hunt him; when found, Hanada attempts to use the dolls to escape to the Expanse, but the passage is one way and he instead summons Mercurius, who kills him. When Aleph defeats Mercurius, he takes the dolls.

It is later revealed that the passage that Hanada opened was only one way due to the fact that one of the dolls he used, the Dancing Doll, was fake. Aleph later retrieves the Sleepy Doll from an inhabitant of Holytown, and uses the dolls to open a proper "backdoor" into the Expanse.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne[]

The Angry, Crying, Happy, and Dancing Dolls can be seen being used by the Manikin during the cutscene before the battle against Mara. In the HD Remaster the Demi-fiend's narration text will say "something is definitely off" about the ceremony, likely because the Dancing Doll is once again present instead of the Sleepy Doll.

Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE[]

In a reference to their appearance in Nocturne, the dolls appeared during the summoning of Mara.
