All types of battle conditions are categorized evenly on the combatants' panels. This chart does not include ailments or Death.

This article covers information on Status Changes in Shin Megami Tensei V, including ailments and other conditions in battle.

Ailments and buffs, with the exception of Death, wear off at the end of battle. Ailments that block the user may prevent them from performing other actions, such as passing their turn or guarding.

Only 1 condition of each category can be maintained at a time, such as with ailments, shields and charge effects: the newest condition will always override the old. Timer-based conditions will also be refreshed.

All conditions are only applied to active party members: switching out will cause them to lose these conditions, with the exception of Death.

Unlike most Shin Megami Tensei games, bosses can be affected by various status conditions as normal; the possibility depends on their resistances.

Death[]

Death automatically removes the party member from the party, leaving them behind in the stock. They cannot receive EXP from battles, although they still receive EXP as rewards from quests.

Aside from the leyline founts, they can only be revived with the skills Recarm, Samarecarm and Revival Chant. If the protagonist is killed, a Game Over will occur even if allied demons have revival skills.

Status Ailments[]

Ailments have a chance to wear off at the start of the player's individual turn, and at the beginning of the enemy turn.

Regular ailments can be healed with the skills Patra, Me Patra, Diamrita, Sun's Radiance and Matriarch's Love. As for items, Amrita Soda and Amrita Shower work.

Stat Changes[]

Status Modifiers[]

Support -kaja/-kunda attacks are rank-based, meaning the rank can be changed, following a counter system. It can stack in 2 ranks, both at max and at minimum (the 2nd rank refers to EX conditions.) The effects are also timer-based: by default, they last 3 turns, and the entire buff wears off at once. The timer resets every time the user is buffed or debuffed, even if it cannot be stacked further.

Charge Effects[]

Charge effects that increase damage, are either Strength-based or Magic-based. They're not based on the affinity of the attack, but rather the stat the attack uses to calculate damage.

Charge effects do not activate on Counter skills.

Protective Effects[]

Shields last for 1 turn only. They're affinity-based, rather than stat-based. They override stronger resistances, such as Repel and Drain.
