Generally, both ailments and battle conditions's expiration is determined by an internal timer, which goes down by 1 at the end of the user's turn. These effects are normally removed at the beginning of the user's turn after the timer has dropped to 0.
Incapacitated[]

If a party member is incapacitated, they will be unable to participate in battle. If the protagonist loses all of his HP, the battle is immediately over, usually resulting in a Game Over.
If an enemy Shadow is slain, they are permanently removed from battle, although methods, such as being angered during negotiation, may cause them to restore any discarded enemies by "calling reinforcements," dependent on the fight's encounter arrangement. In boss fights, bosses may use special skills to revive incapacitated auxiliary units on their side.

This topic is in need of research for the following reason: * Test if Freeze, Shock, Despair and Mouse null evasion. It applies for Sleep. Recommended to use enemy Narcissus's Nocturnal Flash to experiment. Ailments do not automatically block evasion: Brainwash, Dizzy, Fear and Confuse can still evade. Generally, in battle, the status ailments last either one or two turns and are healed at the start of the user's third turn at the latest. They can be healed with skills or items. Ailments are automatically removed from the user upon surviving an Insta-Kill (either through an Enduring effect, or with Homunculus). If the battle ends, all ailments are automatically healed. As such, it is recommended to only cure them during long and hard battles.
All status ailments prevent the afflicted from giving or receiving a Baton Pass, participating in Hold Ups and All-out Attacks, or being switched out. Various battle abilities are disabled while the user is afflicted. Combatants that guard will always be protected from being afflicted with ailments. Under normal circumstances, a combatant can only have one ailment at a time and can never be afflicted with another ailment during the same turn, even if it were to simultaneously remove the target's current affliction. When used against an afflicted target, Ailment Skills will always miss, and skills with secondary effects of afflicting ailments will simply deal damage.
Certain status ailments can be inflicted on random enemies in Mementos during certain special weather. In Persona 5 Royal, that can also be done by using the Chaînés Hook. This only occurs upon entering combat.
In Persona 5 Royal, Technical damage from certain ailments can be performed by more elements. Most of these weaknesses in particular can only be unlocked by reading the book "Knowing the Heart." Additionally, Technical damage now has the chance of downing enemies by default, which can also be increased and maximized.
All major bosses in the original version of Persona 5 are immune to status conditions. In Royal however, there are several exceptions (so the player can fully experience the new Technical Damage system and allowing easier fights by crippling the bosses):
- Ersatz Madarame might be summoned Sleeping after Ichiryusai "Azazel" Madarame uses True Fake for a certain amount of time.
- Junya "Bael" Kaneshiro (when out of the Piggytron), Hitman-for-Hire and Bodyguard-for-Hire - affected by all bar Brainwash, Fear and Despair. Bael also cannot be frozen.
- Corporobo units and Execurobo MDL-ED - affected by all bar Rage, Fear and Despair; Execurobo is also immune to Brainwash.
- Lavenza (HP 75% to 50%) - affected by all bar Despair, all status conditions are automatically removed at the start of turn thanks for her Insta-Heal.

Stat Modifiers[]
By default, stat modifiers last for three turns, and at the end of each turn, their duration decreases by 1. Once the countdown reaches 0, the effect expires at the beginning of the combatant's following turn. If a combatant casts a buff on themselves, that turn is included in the countdown. Applying the same condition when it is already active will extend the duration by 3 turns, up to a maximum of 15, although Auto- skills like Attack Master and Auto-Mataru kick in at the same time at the beginning of the battle and their duration do not stack together. Applying positive and negative changes against each other will simply cancel out their condition, regardless of turn duration.
In the Battle Intel UI, stat modifiers are marked by an arrow icon, pointing upward for an Up change, and downward for a Down change. When the modifier's countdown reaches 1, the arrow icon starts to blink subtly, signifying that the effect is about to end.
