"This game is about space battles, huh? And I guess this little thing here is your spaceship?"
Star Forneus is a Retro Game item.
Effect[]
Star Forneus can be played during the protagonist's daily life. The full game is split in 3 chapters, with each requiring a single session to be completed; if a chapter isn't completed, it'll have to be done from the beginning.
The rules of the game involve having to mash the X button a certain amount of times in a specific amount of seconds. The minigame will be triggered while progressing certain dialogue.
- The first session requires the X button be pressed 25 times in 7 seconds;
- The second session requires the X button be pressed 30 times in 5 seconds;
- The third session has 2 minigames: first one requires 10 presses in 3 seconds, while the second is 40 in 10.
- Using cheats will halve the number of button presses needed. The only exception is the first session, which reduces them from 25 to 17 (2/3, decimals rounded up.)
For each completed session of Star Forneus, the protagonist will receive 2 notes of Guts, but only 1 if he fails. Upon completing the entire game, he will also receive a Shooting Card, a redeemable item.

First play | Second play onward
Morgana | This game is about space battles, huh? And I guess this little thing here is your spaceship? Whoa... You're blasting away the enemy ships one by one... Not bad for a beginner. Oh, there aren't any enemies on screen now... Did you win? Wh-What the heck!? That thing is huge! It must be the boss... Hey, I think you're supposed to aim for the core in the middle. Try focusing your fire on it! |
All right, you've really gotten the hang of beating these enemies. You're getting power-ups too! It seems like you're doing well this time. I bet you could even beat the boss if you wanted... ...The enemy count is going down. Is the boss going to show up soon? Oh, there it is! I knew it...! Anyway, aim for its core and open fire! |
X button must be pressed 25 times in 7 seconds. (Cheats reduce button presses needed to 17.)
Morgana (victory) | Amazing! It's blowing up...!
Morgana (failure) | Shoot... You didn't make it...
Morgana (post-victory) | Wow, you actually managed to beat the level. I'm impressed.
Morgana (post-victory, no cheats) | I bet jumping into the enemy barrage increased your Guts.
Morgana (post-failure) | ...Well that's disappointing. Looks like a game over. You might've failed, but it seems fighting the enemy still increased your Guts somehow. |

Morgana | Huh, that's a new type of enemy. Make sure you aim carefully before you try to shoot it down... Good, good... It looks like you're on course to beat it. |
Damn, these guys are threatening as always. Watch out, they're coming from below too. |
Morgana | Oh... There aren't many enemies left. Is the boss coming up? There it is...! That's a lot of tentacles... You can't hit the core without destroying them first.
X button must be pressed 30 times in 5 seconds. (Cheats reduce button presses needed to 15.)
Morgana (victory) | Nice! You destroyed all the tentacles, and the core too!
Morgana (failure) | Oh, you got hit by a tentacle... I guess you were too close.
Morgana (post-victory) | Wow, you actually managed to beat the level. I'm impressed.
Morgana (post-victory, no cheats) | I bet getting so close to the enemy increased your Guts.
Morgana (post-failure) | ...Well that's disappointing. Looks like a game over. You might've failed, but it seems fighting the enemy still increased your Guts somehow. |
Third Session[]

First play | Second play onward
Morgana | We're finally getting on the last level... The art's getting creepy here. We've already beaten a lot of enemies...! But be careful. The boss should be up ahead. |
This is the last level... Don't let your guard down! |
Morgana | Whoa...! Enemies just poured out of the holes in the background! You've come this far... You can't afford to be beaten now!
X button must be pressed 10 times in 3 seconds. (Cheats reduce button presses needed to 5.)
Morgana (victory) | All right, you managed to survive. Is this really the end though...? Huh? The screen went all dark... Wh-Whoa... It's the last boss! Give this all you've got!
Morgana (failure) | No! They got you...
X button must be pressed 40 times in 10 seconds. (Cheats reduce button presses needed to 20.)
Morgana (victory) | The boss is disappearing... I think this means we win.
Morgana (failure) | Gah! We got shot down...
Morgana (post-victory) | You beat Star Forneus!
Morgana (post-victory, no cheats) | You managed to survive their aggressive attacks... I bet your Guts has increased.
Morgana (post-failure) | We've come so far, but all we have to show for it is a game over... You might've failed, but it seems fighting the enemy still increased your Guts somehow. |

First time | Second time onward
Morgana (before a session starts) | By the way, haven't you read that secret technique book? | - |
Morgana | Apparently there's a way to shoot double lasers from your ship to make things a little easier... | So, should we use the trick? It'll let you shoot double lasers. |
>Use the technique. (Response 1) >Play the game normally. (Response 2)
Morgana (Response 1) | I see... I guess I understand how you might be frustrated about not being able to beat the game.
Morgana (Response 2) | Spoken like a true warrior. Good luck!
Morgana (post-victory, cheats) | It wasn't really very exciting with that technique...
Morgana (post-failure, cheats) | Is it too tough for you? We'll just have to try again next time! |
Etymology[]
The name of the game might be a reference to Star Force, a vertical-scrolling shooter game on the NES. It also uses the name of the demon/Persona that can be summoned, Forneus.
Additionally, the "Star" itself might be reference to Decarabia, a demon that Forneus is commonly paired with.
Trivia[]
- Star Forneus was released in 1988.
