Spirit Drain being cast in Shin Megami Tensei V.
Spirit Drain (吸魔, Kyuuma)?, also called Makatranda or Mana Drain, is a special Almighty skill.
Effect[]
Spirit Drain lets the user steal a small amount of MP/SP from their target for their own use. In the main series, the amount stolen can increase or decrease based on any buffs and/or debuffs on the user and/or the target. In the Persona games, it steals a set amount.
In Shin Megami Tensei, Makatranda steals MP from 1 enemy,
In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, it is called Mana Drain and steals MP.
In Shin Megami Tensei IV and Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, it steals MP.
In Shin Megami Tensei V, the attack is damage-based, and the MP restored is parallel to the MP damage given. It cannot drain more than the target's maximum MP in one use, and it drains 1 MP if used on a target that has none left.
In Soul Hackers 2, Spirit Drain deals MP damage to a target. A quarter of the MP damage dealt is given to the user to replenish their MP.
In Persona 3, Spirit Drain drains 20 SP from 1 target. It will also not knock downed enemies back to their feet when used on them.
In Persona 4, Spirit Drain drains 30 SP from 1 target.
In Persona 5, Spirit Drain cannot deal Technical damage and will not remove status ailments from the target. While it is an Almighty Skill, it is not affected by Almighty Boost, although the SP restored to the user can be increased with Persona Traits like "Hallowed Spirit" (the amount of SP the target lost stays the same) or "Draining Mouth" (which also increases the amount of SP the target lost). Spirit Drain always misses if used against target with 0 SP left.
In Persona 5 Strikers, Spirit Drain is an enemy-exclusive skill that drains 20 SP.
In Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, Spirit Drain is a Mind attack that steals EP from 1 target.
