Social Stats are a game mechanic appearing in the Persona series. They also go by Social Qualities in Persona 3 and Traits in Persona 4, but broadly they're referred to as Human Parameters (人間パラメータ, Ningen Parameeta)? in Japanese.

Increasing social qualities will help the protagonist initiate certain Social Links. There are three different stats: Academics (学力, Gakuryoku)?, Courage (勇気, Yūki)? and Charm (魅力, Miryoku)?.
The Social Links that are unlocked, including the required level for some of them, vary between the male and female protagonist. In addition, the titles for Charm Rank 2 through 6 vary between the two protagonists.

This topic is in need of research for the following reason: * How many points do "significant" increases give? And so forth. This can be discussed on the article's talk page. |
Increasing the protagonist's traits will help initiate or resume certain Social Links, or gain access to working at certain part-time jobs.
There are five traits in Persona 4: Courage (男気, Otokogi)?, Knowledge (知識, Chishiki)?, Expression (伝達力, Dentatsuryoku)?, Understanding (寛容さ, Kanyōsa)? and Diligence (根気, Konki)?.
Activities are differentiated by the rate they increase stats. Aside from regular increases, points may be "greatly" or "significantly" increased.
Additionally, certain dialogue options, whether it be during Social Links or story-based events, may be locked behind a Stat requirement towards a certain Rank, while others may in turn increase one of the protagonist's stats. For example, on 4/12, responding with "...You calling me a loser?" to Kinshiro Morooka will increase the protagonist's Courage.
Due to the expanded number of social stats, Rank 6 was removed, and Rank 5 is made the new cap from this game on.

This topic is in need of research for the following reason: * Examine the specifics of stat multipliers. are they individual multipliers rather than stage modifiers? (see if Chihaya's modifier on 2-note activities still yield 2 notes). Ensure that Chihaya's modifier and book multiplier are examined separately, and see if both stack. This can be discussed on the article's talk page. |
"Look, Knowledge isn't enough. You need Proficiency to adapt on the fly. You also need Kindness to be acceptant, and Guts to be honest and direct. Plus Charm, to draw people to you. The quality of your character says a lot about you, so it's important to better yourself every day."
Social Stats dictate the protagonist's accessibility in different parts of his daily life. Increasing them will help the protagonist initiate or resume certain Confidants, or gain access to working at certain part-time jobs.

The point gain is displayed in musical notes, and 1 to 3 can appear at once. However, the number of notes displayed does not equal the number of points that are received. For example, 1 note indicates 2 points. Under normal circumstances, 2 notes indicate 3 points, but 3 notes have 2 innate possible outcomes, which vary depending on the activity: normal 3-note activities reward 5 points, but specific books, such as Master Swordsman, have a higher point yield of 7, even though they still display 3 notes.[1][2][3]
There are also modifiers that increase the growth rate of social stats. They come in the form of numeral multipliers, rather than increasing the stage of the notes received. These modifiers multiply the points received by x1.5, decimals always rounded down. 7 points will be multiplied to 10, which is the highest point yield possible in the game. Normally, this multiplier simply leaps to the next stage of points received, but 3 points multiplied will yield 4 instead of 5, and because of that 2 notes will still be displayed when they're received.[1][2]
One major modifier is Chihaya Mifune's Luck Reading ability, that can only be received by establishing her Confidant. If consulted with, the Social Stat points received from activities during that day will be increased by x1.5. Additionally, reading Cinema Treasures will grant the same stat point boost when watching movies.[1][2] In Royal, the same book, The Craft of Cinema, has its multiplier increase by a single stage instead, rather than rely on a direct multiplier: because it now also affects DVDs, those will yield 5 points (3 notes). The Cinema and Chihaya modifiers stack, with the former taking priority.[2]

The protagonist can check how close he is to Ranking up a stat via interacting with the bathroom in Café Leblanc or at school. "I have no idea how close..." means that he is less than 1/3 of the way to the next rank; "I feel somewhat close..." means that he is between 1/3 and 2/3 of the way to the next rank; "I'm definitely getting close..." means that he is more than 2/3 of the way to the next rank.

- In the bathhouse, if the protagonist decides to "Hold the line" with the boys, the girls will continue throwing buckets at them regardless before finally retreating.
- At school, if the protagonist decides to enter the Girls' Bathroom, he will not have the courage to go inside.

Scrapped Content[]
- Datamining the contents of Persona 5 indicates Social Stats originally consisted of Guts, Sense, Instinct, Sex Appeal and Finesse.[4]
- Datamining also implies social stats would play a major role in unlocking certain abilities, most of which are social:
- An ability called "Baton Pass" as per the combat ability of the same name would "calm things down with humor", and is usable when the Sense stat is at "Sensitive."
- "Soul Touch", which shares a name with the passive skill, would make it possible to tell who has Treasure in Mementos, indicating that would be at least a means to unlocking requests, instead of via Yuuki Mishima's help. Instinct must be at "Wild."
- If the protagonist's Sex Appeal is at "Dripping," he would be able to disguise as a gigolo. The functions for that ability are unclear.
- The protagonist would only be able to confess his love to another woman and enter a relationship if his Sex Appeal was at "Kill with Eyes."
- The protagonist would be able to "act like a proper gentleman" if his Finesse was at "Thoughtful." This information implies it's a social feature.
- The protagonist can gain access to fancy facilities if his Guts stat is at "Bold."
- It would be possible to "broaden the range of movement at night" if the Guts stat was at "Dauntless." Whether this implies going outside the protagonist's residence or breaking restrictions to certain locations at nighttime is unclear.

Note the fact that receiving Social Stats has been gradually accumulated over time: the fact that the first scenario ranked up where it has, and on one note, proves that 20p or 11 notes will not lead to a rank up, hence only leaving to prove whether it's ranked up because of 21p, 22p or 12 notes. 21p or 22p in particular because 1 note might be equal to 2 points, meaning that the final point yield can go over the milestone necessary.
Because the 2nd scenario ranked up, it disproved both the fact that it requires 12 notes (which was left unchanged) and 21p (which was changed.) Hence, proving that it's ranked up due to having 22p, and in turn that Social Stats are point-based, not note-based.
Should the 2nd scenario have ranked up, only disproving it's 22p required for RANK UP, simply testing the one below would establish the answer:

If that one still ranked up, it'd prove that it requires 21p, which is left unchanged. If not, it'd prove that it requires 12 notes, which was the only variable changed. - ↑ https://amicitia.miraheze.org/wiki/Persona_5/Skills
