Shouten (also known as Kangiten) is a god of Japanese esoteric Buddhism, and very similar in form and function to the Hindu god, Ganesha. For those that worship it and show the proper respect, it will bring good luck, wisdom, and good health. However halfhearted devotion will turn its blessings into a curse, bringing bad luck, ignorance, and illness upon the offender. Shouten is widely considered central to conjugal affection, and often prayed to by couples hoping to bear children. It is rare to see statues of this deity however and it is used in secret rituals, this is because of its connections to the Hindu god, Ganesha. Shouten is generally depicted with a human body and an elephant's head, or as two elephant-headed deities in an embrace.

Shouten and its brethren have taken up residence in the alternate reality of Dark Harumi-Cho in Episode 9, in order to balance out the power of the region due to Orochi's presence. Shouten will offer to take Raidou to Orochi once he proves his prowess by defeated other Shouten demons and presenting 8 Purity Charms to him. Once all 8 have been collected, Shouten makes good on his promise and leads Raidou to Orochi's location.

The second demon that must be defeated to perform the Ritual of Unsealing during Chapter 5. He is fought next to the Narumi Detective Agency. He is joined by several Turdaks that respawn and uses Tetrakarn in battle. Shouten takes very little damage from his weakness fire and is hard to inflict stun.

One of the minions of Abe Seimei. Due to being infected with Clarion's poisonous magnetite, he's corrupted by an insatiable hunger, transforming him into the hideous monstrosity Behemoth. Shortly after, he devours Abe's other minions Rakshasa and Atavaka. He's eventually sacrificed to summon Clarion itself.
