Shou Shen (possibly Romanized from the Mandarin "壽神", lit. "God of Longevity"), also known as Fukurokuju, formally known as Nanji Laoren (南極老人, lit. "Old Man of the South Pole") or Shouxinggong (壽星公, lit. "Old Man of Star of Longevity") (both names refer to the star Canopus), is the third of the Seven Lucky Gods from the Japanese mythology. In Japan he is known as Juroujin (寿老人*)?, but his place among the Seven Lucky Gods sometimes is replaced by Kichijouten, namely Lakshmi.
He represents a long and healthy life. He appears in the form of a bald elderly man with a walking stick in his right hand and a peach in his left. In legend he was said to be carried in his mother for ten years before being born. When he was born he was already an old man. He is said to carry a gourd filled with the elixir of life.
