Shin Megami Tensei if...: Jin of the Expanse is an original novel written by Yoru Yoshimura with illustrations from Eiji Kaneda. It takes place during Shin Megami Tensei: if... and follows a different boy named Jin. It features direct references to Tamaki Uchida and the Peace Diner.
Jin is the president of Karukozaka High School’s Occultism Club. Ideo Hazama turns into the Imperial Deity and throws the school into the Expanse just like in the game, but the novel focuses on Jin and the other members of the Occultism Club. They make a deal with a demon who will send them back home if they pay him enough Macca, but the amount demanded equals millions of yen. Using money drops from demons (which the party fights by using a demon summoning cell phone app) would take years, so they decide to scam the demons by selling fake happiness amulets. Surprisingly, it works, and the club makes a fortune in no time. They already have enough to go home, but decide to live in the Expanse because of their wealth there. One day, they discover that while Hazama sent the school to the Expanse, he didn’t conquer it. He was taking his time forming an army, and now marches to conquer the Expanse! The Occultism Club tells the demons that the effect of the amulets will be broken if the Imperial Deity conquers the Expanse, so the scammed demons form an army of their own and battle Hazama’s army. The club confronts Hazama, who throws a fit after being angered and says “You guys should just go home!”, before teleporting the Occultism Club back to Earth. It ends with them vowing to find a way to return to the Expanse and their fortunes.
