Shin Megami Tensei - El Salem (真・女神転生―エル・セイラム) is a novel written by Aya Nishitani with art by Katsumi Aizaki.

Characters[]

Reiko Take (岳玲子): A high school girl at Joseph Academy. She seems to be the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary, which forces on her a harsh destiny being the target of Baal's army.
Haruko Dazai (太宰春子): Reiko's classmate. She was given the dagger Thummim by Prophet Elisha and became its user.
Prodigy Katsuhiko (神童克彦): A high school student who is the son of a pastor. He did not believe in God because his mother was killed by an old man he helped, but this was Baal's plot.
Kenichi Ishikawa (石川憲一): An elementary school student who lives in the house next to Reiko. Somehow, the soccer ball he possesses turned into the sacred treasure Urim and becomes his strength.
Kuro (クロ): A mysterious black cat that approaches Reiko. He is actually called Henry the Lion, and the power of Urim enables him to transform into a black lion.
Ryuji Suzuki (鈴木竜二): A commentator of paranormal phenomena. He obtained a special power after witnessing Elisha and others in the forest of Meiji Jingu.
Fuyumi Suzuki (鈴木冬美): Ryuji's younger sister. Similar to her brother, she also has a special power.
Kevin (ケビン): A Protestant minister who first proved the existence of demons. With that experience he participates in the battle against demons along with the US military.
Prince Takaya (高屋親王): A historical figure revived in the present world. A Karakuri puppet manipulator.
Ono no Takamura (小野篁): A historical figure revived in the present world. He possesses powerful psychic abilities.
Shinpei Eto (江藤新平): A politician of the Meiji era. He revives in the present world and appears before the governor of Tokyo.
Baal (バール): The prime culprit who caused the events in this work, also known as the Lord of Water. He was sealed in Inokashira Park, but he started to move and plans to make a complete revival in command of a various demons, including Vritra.
Anna Ishikawa (石川安奈): Kenichi's younger sister, who was chosen as Baal's maiden. She caused destruction and murder with the power from Baal, and eventually became an evil existence that could be described as "a new race sent into the world from constant evolutions of the evil things hidden in human genes"...
Toshiyuki Osawa (大沢俊之): One of the six elementary school students chosen as Baal's servants. He acts as a leader of the elementary school students, but gradually becomes suspicious of what he is doing. It turns out eventually that he is actually a Savior.
Hannibal (ハンニバル): A Carthaginian warrior revived by Baal's hand. He becomes a loyal subordinate of Baal and commands the elephant unit.
Midian Balaam (ミデアンのバラム): A spirit under the command of Baal. He first approached Anna and guided her into evil actions.
Louis (ルイ): A bandsman who plays the band "El Dog" and is the secretary of the prime minister. However, his true identity is a demon familiar to the Megaten series.
Bella of Sodom (ソドムのベラ), Birsha of Gomorrah (ゴモラのビルシャ), Sinabu of Adema (アデマのシナブ), Sebel of Zeboim (ゼボイムのセベル): The fiends serving under Louis. Louis also controls other flies that seem to be demons.

Story[]

Reiko Take (岳玲子), a 16-year-old high school student at St. Joseph Academy, has been experiencing frequent strange incidents since she moved to Kichijoji, such as a fire in her neighbor's house, a husky dog slaughtered in the neighborhood, an earthquake...The cause was a mysterious program operated by Anna Ishikawa (石川安奈), a girl living in the neighborhood. This devil CAD program can be used to curse and kill the target. Moreover, the more the program curses others, the more effective it becomes.

However, that is merely a sign of an incoming catastrophe involving the whole Tokyo...

Synopsis^[1][]

Volume 1: A bizarre event occurs around Reiko Take, who has moved to Kichijoji in the suburbs of Tokyo. It was just the beginning of a big catastrophe that would dramatically change Reiko...and the world.

Volume 2: The second volume of the long-awaited "Shin Megami Tensei El Salem" is out. Many of the bizarre events that took place around Reiko Take and Haruko Dazai are caused by Anna Ishikawa, who has been chosen by Deity Baal. However, neither Reiko nor Haruko — at the mercy of the tragedy that occurs around them and the battle with the devil — is aware of Baal's existence behind Anna, or their own reincarnations. What kind of future awaits Reiko and Haruko?

Volume 3: After a fierce battle with Kevin's U.S. forces, Anna Ishikawa shifts her next target to the skyscrapers in Shinjuku, along with six children in a hotel room in Kichijoji, a city that is literally the center of the world. Baal, who has been manipulating Anna, is approaching Shinjuku mercilessly. Can Reiko Take and Haruko Dazai save Shinjuku while being at the mercy of their destiny? And who will it be to save them...?

Volume 4: Will Reiko become an eternal Holy Mother!? Haruko and her friends continues to desperately resist Baal, who is approaching the center of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. But instead of diminishing, Baal's power becomes stronger and pushes everyone to the fear of death. Eto and Kevin set up a plan that will risk their lives...Then, Elisha appears in front of Reiko — whose womb has been devoured by a demon, and forces Reiko to make the final choice. Will Reiko become the Holy Mother!? It's finally time for the final battle.
