Megami Ibunroku Persona

"Maki's mother. She works at SEBEC as an engineering specialist."
—PSP introduction

Setsuko Sonomura is the mother of Maki Sonomura. An elite engineer for SEBEC, she worked on the development of the DEVA System. She deserts the company in opposition to Takahisa Kandori and is wounded in her escape. She is found by the party at the Alaya Shrine, and is escorted back to St. Hermelin High School.

In the Snow Queen Quest, she is found resting in the nurse's office during the events of the quest.

In the SEBEC route, she leaves the school in pursuit of Maki and is pulled into her dream world, where she takes the form of the demon Hariti. She appears before Maki and the party at the top of the Haunted Mansion. Recognizing her voice, Maki pleads with the rest of the party not to fight Hariti. Although the player's choice determines how many totems for the Ultimate Personas he gets later in the game, Setsuko will return to normal whichever option is chosen. At the end of the encounter, she stays behind to keep the dimensional passageway open so the party can escape the dream world.

After Takahisa Kandori's defeat, Setsuko is later seen in the Gingerbread House in the Lost Forest with Mai.

  • The name Setusko means "section, period, verse, melody" (節) (setsu) and "child" (子) (ko).
  • Setsuko's surname Sonomura means "garden, park, plantation" (園) (sono) and "town, village" (村) (mura).

  • Setsuko is never referred by name in the Japanese version of the game, both PS and PSP versions, only being called "Maki's Mother." The name "Setsuko Sonomura" made its first appearance in the Persona World guide and was used in the American PSP port.
