SearchObjects

Breaking a search object.

Searchable Objects or Search Objects (サーチオブジェクト, Sāchi Obujekuto)? are a mechanic in Persona 5.

Profile[]

Many breakable search objects are scattered in Palaces that can yield certain items. They are generally themed per location, such as how they appear as boxes or urns in Kamoshida's Palace, or how they take the appearance of daruma dolls in Shido's Palace. A majority of these objects are empty and contain nothing; these objects will not glow when using the Third Eye. Objects that yield items will instead glow yellow when the Third Eye is used.

The protagonist can interact with these objects (empty included,) in which case he'll break them, and they remain broken for the rest of the day (or, for some weird reason, permanently in Kamoshida's Palace). In Mementos, they are gathered on the middle of the street, and simply colliding with them will automatically gather the objects. In the process, he will receive a random item, with the possible options varying between Palaces or Jails, or divided between paths in Mementos.

Generally, the items that can be received from these breakable objects are certain consumable items (such as Devil Fruits and Revival Beads), area-specific treasure items, which can be sold to Munehisa Iwai at Untouchable for a price, and in Mementos only, material items, which are used for crafting infiltration tools. Also, when breaking an object, there is a chance for a Treasure Demon to spawn from it, in which case the protagonist will have to chase it and attack it to initiate battle. Their spawn rate can be raised with the Treasure Trap tool.

Futaba Sakura's skill Treasure Reboot has the chance to revive all search objects in the area after a battle is over.

In technical terms, although there are drop rates for search objects, in Palaces they are each divided between multiple pools, each of which is able to drop 1 of a specific set of items. Although the items dropped from the pools is random, the pools selected aren't, and each potential search object is assigned to drop from a specific pool in advance. Because of this, the rate of receiving a specific item overall is based on the Palace's layout and isn't entirely pre-determined.

In Mementos, there is a rare chance for a Fare Adjusting Machine (精算機, Seisan-ki)? to appear on the platforms right next to the stairs. It glows like a regular search object when using the Third Eye. When broken, it drops money. These machines can be restored by Treasure Reboot.

Persona 5 Royal[]

In Persona 5 Royal, consumable items can only be found in Mementos, and material items can be found in both Mementos and Palaces. Additionally, in Mementos, certain items can only be found during rainy and snowy weather or weather warnings.

A second variety of searchable objects is also introduced in Royal, called flowers, which are a currency for Jose's Shop exclusively found in Mementos, and will vanish should even one be taken out of Mementos. A unique phenomenon may make the current floor of Mementos produce more flowers than normal.

The Item Bonus from Jose's Shop can increase the number of items received from interacting with Search Objects in Mementos, the highest number being 11. The multiplier rolls how many random drops can be made at a time, so different items may be received from a search object, rather than several of the same item at once.

In Royal, Fare Adjusting Machines instead drop SP-recovering items depending on the area of Mementos:[1]

Jose's Item Bonus multiplier applies to FAMs as well.

Persona 5 Strikers[]

Searchable objects return in Persona 5 Strikers and are somewhat streamlined. Unlike the previous games, where there are thematic searchable items such as boxes, volleyballs, avant-garde sculptures, money collection bags, etc., all searchable objects throughout the various Jails resemble how they had appeared in Mementos, that is white gems in spinning cages, and are collected in the same manner. Certain searchable objects appear in certain Jails only when certain Requests are under progress.

Generally, the items that can be received from these objects are certain consumable items, Jail-specific treasure items, which can be sold to Sophia at Sophia's Shop for a price, and junkware, a unique series of materials that can't be sold to Sophia's Shop, but is given to Kuon Ichinose via repeatable requests submitted by her, which serves as a good source of money with the requests' subsequent clears.

The Packrat BOND Skill, unlocked after the taking down the Monarch of the Sendai Jail and making a deal with Ichinose, helps modifies the likelihood of obtaining more Jail-specific junkware per searchable object, and leveling up this BOND Skill increases the likelihood.
