Scout is a skill in the mainline Shin Megami Tensei series and the Devil Summoner series.
Effect[]
In Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, Scout is a negotiation skill that can be used by the Demi-fiend's demons to recruit demons during random battles. This skill is more effective if an adult demon is trying to recruit a female demon using the skill. A chile demon using the skill on a female target will have an adverse effect and may make the demon being negotiated with attack.
In Shin Megami Tensei IV, Scout is the basic conversation skill that Flynn may use to interact with demons and negotiate with them into order to recruit them to his side. It will be a mandatory purchase from Burroughs' App selection for 1 App Point. Demons contacted through Scout may ask for items, Macca, life (HP), spirit (MP) or pose questions for Flynn to answer. Some may even request to kill a demon in Flynn's stock. Should Flynn use Scout on a demon already in his stock, the demon will acknowledge their presence and leave, ending the battle, even should other demons be present. Some demons may grant additional benefits such as HP/MP restoration, items or Macca. A demon that has been angered through the Fundraise skill may still be contacted through Scout and be recruited or the battle ended should the same demon be in Flynn's stock.
In Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse, Scout works the same way that it did in Shin Megami Tensei IV, but an additional detail is that if Nanashi scouts a demon that has been inflicted with Charm, it will automatically join his party.
In the Raidou Kuzunoha series, Scout is an Investigation Skill belonging to the Wind Order of demons. When Raidou has them use the Scout skill, they will temporarily fly away and return with a short report on the area, which includes the number of normal items left in the area and three of the demons that can be found in the area. Scout will not detect hidden items that a Volt Order demon can find using the Inspect skill. When returning from scouting the area, the demon can also bring back a random item and give it to Raidou.
