Ruyi Jingu Bang, also known as Ruyi Bang or Jingu Bang, is the poetic name of a magical staff wielded by the immortal monkey Sun Wukong (possibly influenced by the Hindu deity Hanuman) in the 16th-century classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. An inscription on the staff reads "The Compliant Golden-Hooped Rod. Weight: thirteen thousand five hundred [catties]". The inscription indicates that the staff follows the commands of its owner and that it is immensely heavy, weighing 17,550 lbs.
