Ranged Weapons (遠隔武器*)? are a type of equipment in the series. They are strictly a counterpart to Melee Weapons, which are differentiated between whether they deal damage via contact, as such, there will be many cases where there will be a subtype of melee weapons that revolve around guns.
Overview[]
Ranged Weapons primarily have an influence on ranged attacks, and affect power and accuracy, alongside a secondary effect, which either affects only the gun or the user's stats as a whole.
Persona 3 and Persona 4[]
In Persona 3 and Persona 4, some characters use ranged weapons like fans, bows, and guns for their melee attacks. Unlike melee weapons, party members with these kind of weapons cannot Stumble and become Downed when their attacks miss.
Persona 5 / Royal[]
In Persona 5, each party member's individual guns have a limited number of ammo they can use per Palace visit. Reserve Ammo can be used to replenish the party's ammo instantly. In Persona 5 Royal, ammo replenishes instantly after battle and the item was removed.
Aside from the ammo, individual guns have a preset number of rounds that can be shot per turn: for example, although all of Ann Takamaki's guns have an ammo count of 36, most weapons can only shoot 12 rounds per turn, while some guns, such as the Phantom Killer and Wild Hunt, can only shoot 6 rounds per turn. In Persona 5, ranking Shinya Oda's Confidant to Rank 5 will double the max ammo the party can carry. For more information, see Confidant/Shinya Oda.
The party members' max ammo values are as follows:
User | Ammo | |
---|---|---|
Normal | +Pouch | |
Protagonist | 16 | 32 |
Ryuji Sakamoto | 8 | 16 |
Morgana | 15 | 30 |
Ann Takamaki | 36 | 72 |
Yusuke Kitagawa | 24 | 48 |
Makoto Niijima | 12 | 24 |
Haru Okumura | 6 | 12 |
Goro Akechi | 12 | 24 |
In Persona 5 Royal, ammo and rounds have been merged so that ammo replenishes after every battle, the value of which is directly determined by the weapon's rounds value.
The ranged weapons of Ann Takamaki and Haru Okumura function differently: Ann's weapon always aims at a random enemy, whereas Haru's always aims towards all enemies, but has only 1 round.
In Persona 5, if Down Shot has been unlocked, the protagonist can sacrifice some of his ammo to Down an enemy. In Royal, Down Shot consumes a special type of bullets. Also, Warning Shots consume ammo.
From a purely cosmetic standpoint, the party members use guns in various animations without actually consuming any ammo nor dealing Gun-based damage: this applies to Bullet Hail, backup members' Follow Ups, Showtimes, and melee attacks that Down enemies through Weakness or Critical.
Traits that enhance chance to inflict ailments like "Gaia Pact" or "Foul Stench" do not affect weapons, melee or ranged. If attacks from such weapons are repelled, traits that prevent ailments like "Icy Glare" or "Immunity" are unable to protect the user from their effects, although Passive skills like Null Shock would still work as intended.
Persona 5 Strikers[]
In Persona 5 Strikers, ranged weapons are not divided by items, and all party members use a single ranged weapon during the story.
