Rahu was a cruel Asura in Hindu myth. It ate the nectar of immortality and was subsequently beheaded by one of Vishnu's avatars.
Rahu also appears in Buddhism within the Pali Canon as a being who attacked Chandra and Suriya, the Hindu deities of the Moon and the Sun, respectively, before being compelled to release them. The Buddha responds by enjoining Rahu into releasing them. This myth serves as an explanation for the solar/lunar eclipse phenomenon.
Rahu, or Rahula, is also the name of a demon in Tibetan Buddhism who was subjugated by Padmasambhava and became a protector of the Dzogchen teachings. In Tibet, he is called Gza.
Rahu appears in the Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner series as the Atma Avatar of Mick the Slug. Mick transforms into Rahu when cornered by Serph and company at the top of Coordinate 136 after Cielo rescues Sera. During the battle, both his head and body are targetable and act independently.
His body can use Dragon Quake, a powerful earth attack that hits the entire party, and his head can use Dragon Thrash to capture one of the party members. Party members captured in such a way will be drained of HP every time their turn comes up. They can be freed by either destroying the head or body, or doing enough damage to the head to make it return to the body at the end of the turn. Otherwise the captive party member will only be released when they are drained of HP completely. His head will still fight on if the party destroys the body and vice versa.
The head, originally a folded mass, can deploy a humanoid combat form.
Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2[]
Mick the Slug's Solar Data is encountered near the end of the game, and challenges the party again as Rahu. He fights exactly the same as he did in the first, only with more HP.
