The PlayStation Portable (プレイステーション・ポータブル, Pureisutēshon Pōtaburu)?, officially abbreviated as PSP, is a handheld game console released and manufactured by Sony. Announcement of its development was made at E3 in 2003, followed with the console's release in 2004. Games released for the PlayStation Portable use the UMD format.
The PlayStation Portable is considered the seventh-generation of video game consoles, and has the capability to play different multimedia, access the internet and connectivity to other PSP as well as the PlayStation 3 console. With the unveiling of the PlayStation Network, games may be downloaded into a Memory Stick and played on the PlayStation Portable. It is succeeded by the PlayStation Vita.
