Phantom Mage appears in the lower half of the Arqa Block in Tartarus. They are among the first Shadows that will start targeting the party with instant Death skills. It reappears later in the second and third section of Judecca within the Abyss of Time.
Once the party can access Arqa Block, Elizabeth will have a request to collect three Old Lanterns. Phantom Mages may drop the Old Lantern item until the quest is completed.
Persona 3 Reload[]
Like the previous games, Phantom Mage appears in the Arqa Block of Tartarus.
A more powerful Phantom Mage appears as a random Monad Door boss in the Yabbashah Block of Tartarus. Unlike normal Phantom Mage enemies, this one has access to various types of Light Skills such as Kouga and Hama, and it will usually waste a turn "chanting a death spell" to telegraph when it will go for Mahama.
Persona 4 / Golden[]
Phantom Mage appears on floors 6 and 7 of Yukiko's Castle within the Midnight Channel. When defeated it may drop Golden Cloth. Selling six Golden Cloths at Daidara will unlock the Iai Katana for the protagonist, which is the strongest weapon available to him during this dungeon.
In Golden, Phantom Mage appears on floors 4 to 6 of Yukiko's Castle. If it is accompanied by a Positive King, it will cause the Positive King to summon Bronze Dice instead of Secret Bambinos. It is now weak to Electricity and Light, and resists Physical and Darkness. In battle, it will lower party members' attack with Tarunda, Silence them with Makajam, or attack with Garu and Mudo. It may also drop Blue Quartz for trade at Shiroku Pub.
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth[]
Phantom Mage appears in the 1st and 2nd Stories of the Evil Spirit Club, and are infamous for their Wind Corrosion skill which makes the party more vulnerable to Wind attacks - primarily their Magarula skill. While not problematic if only one appears, they can ambush the party at P-Spots in Story 1 in groups of two, virtually guaranteeing a combination of Wind Corrosion and Magarula before the party can even act, leaving them weakened and almost prone to death by the next casting of Magarula. Several other enemies exist on lower floors that operate similarly, having a Corrosion and Ma-la skill corresponding to different elements, but they do not ambush the party as often as Phantom Mage pairs.
When defeated, it may drop Ghost Piece and Ghost Lamp. Ghost Piece is used to create the Lance of Death for Ken. Ghost Lamp is used to create the Aim Goggles accessory.
