This article covers information about Fuuka Yamagishi as a Navigator in Persona 3.
Overview[]
Persona 3 / FES / Portable[]
Fuuka first aids the group during the boss battle against the Arcana Empress and Emperor in Tartarus on June 8th, before officially joining the team on June 13th.
Fuuka does not function like a traditional party member: she does not participate in battle, and as such does not take up a slot in the active party; instead, she serves as a Navigator to assist the frontline party, taking over the role from Mitsuru. She still gets stats and levels but they are irrelevant to how she performs. Her scanning abilities are more powerful than Mitsuru's, as she can reveal the target's skill set in addition to its elemental weaknesses and resistances. However, this information remains obscured on most bosses.
As Fuuka levels up she also learns a few additional skills to aid travel through Tartarus. Support scan informs the party if they are about to unleash an attack that would be nullified/repelled/drained (provided the target's affinities are known beforehand), and Healing Wave restores the party's HP for each floor they ascend in Tartarus, giving extra stamina during Tartarus expeditions.
After undergoing a second awakening on 20th October, Fuuka's Persona upgrades to Juno and picks up Oracle, an exclusive skill only for her. Oracle has a random effect on the party which may either fully restore their HP and/or SP, cure ailments, or potentially put everyone at 1 HP and SP. It takes a few turns to execute and is generally a risky maneuver, best performed when anticipating a disastrous outcome. Oracle may only be used once during an exploration on Tartarus.
Her final skill, Escape Route, lets the party return to the entrance of Tartarus from anywhere in the tower, without needing any access points.
Persona 3 Reload[]
Due to different enemy scan interfaces and functions, Fuuka works differently in this game. Like with Mitsuru's scanning, Fuuka will remember any elemental affinities the party has discovered on the enemies they face, but will also automatically reveal the enemies' skill sets. Boss movesets will remain obscured.
The fight against Arcana Empress and Arcana Emperor serve to showcase Fuuka's new scanning ability. Once each enemy and ally has made their move, Fuuka can spend 35 SP to fully scan an enemy, revealing all its elemental affinities. This also works on bosses, so taking a turn to buff and debuff before scanning them to hit with effective attacks leads to fewer wasted turns as opposed to trying random attacks until the party discovers what works.
Scanning enemies also gives bonus charge to Fuuka's Theurgy gauge. Once it's full, she will inform the party that she's ready to unleash her Theurgy, and it can be initiated during any party member's turn without consuming their action. Oracle now takes effect immediately and is far less risky; while it will still apply a random effect, all its outcomes are beneficial, affect only the party, and the game can prioritize what is needed by the party before picking what happens.
- If anyone is low on health or is suffering from an ailment, everyone gets healed.
- If the party is healthy but has no buffs on them, cast a party-wide Heat Riser.
- If at least two party members are low on SP, everyone's SP is restored.
In addition to scanning, Fuuka also learns additional skills on level-up that aid in journeying through Tartarus. Jamming temporarily keeps enemies from detecting the party until they engage in battle or switch floors, letting them slip past enemies to safety if they're low on health or supplies. Sylphid Aura starts the party with a Auto-Maraku and Auto-Masuku for the next battle (unlike the skill description). Shock Noise inflicts Distress on all enemies on the floor to give the party an edge in clearing out a floor full of tough enemies. Escape Route lets the party return to the entrance without needing any teleporters. Tartarus Search fully maps the current floor, including the stairs up, but also guarantees the party success in tracking down a Greedy Shadow so they can reap the spoils.
All of Fuuka's non-Theurgy skills, including her scanning ability, will consume SP, so giving Fuuka equipment that increases her max SP is important even if she's not an active combatant. In prolonged boss fights that repeatedly change their affinities, like against Nyx Avatar or Elizabeth, be mindful of Fuuka's remaining SP if choosing to re-scan, because Fuuka's SP cannot be replenished mid-battle, even should she be given equipment with Invigorate skills effects.
When Fuuka undergoes a second awakening on October 20th, she upgrades to Juno, and her Oracle Theurgy upgrades to Revelation. In addition to doing all of the above, Fuuka can now bestow a party-wide combined Charge and Concentrate if nobody is in that state, or fully restore everyone's HP and SP if the party is in poor condition.
