Kaneko's design for Otogo-Douji is a direct interpretation of the Gohō Dōji in Japanese Buddhism. He can be seen riding a dharma-wheel like a unicycle and sporting sword-garb, both of which can be seen in his more common depiction as a young boy and as a child with the face of a man, seen here.
