History[]
An onyx is a type of black mineral with parallel bands. The colors of its bands range from black to almost every color. Onyx is mentioned in the Bible numerous times, mostly in the Book of Exodus.
Sardonyx is a variant in which the colored bands are shades of red rather than black. The ancient Romans entered battle carrying amulets of sardonyx engraved with Mars, the god of war. This was believed to bestow courage in battle.

In Shin Megami Tensei, Onyx is used to trade for items or Element Race demons.
In Shin Megami Tensei II, Onyx increases Aleph's stats when nine are held.
In Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Onyx can be given to demons to increase their Loyalty.
In Megami Ibunroku Persona, Onyx can be added to a fusion, reducing or raising a Persona's Order.
In Persona 3, Onyx is used to trade for Incense Cards and a gift in Shinshoudo Antiques.
In Persona 5, Onyx cannot be used in any way and can only be sold for money.
