History[]
An omphalos, the Greek word for "navel", is an ancient stone artifact. According to the Greeks, Zeus sent two eagles to fly across the world to meet its center, the navel of the world. Omphalos stones were used to denote this point and were erected in many areas surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. It is also the name of a stone that Rhea gave to Cronus instead of the baby Zeus.
