Narcissus (Greek: Νάρκισσος) was a strong and beautiful boy of Greek mythology. He is also known for his cruel disposition; he rejected the love of the youths, boy and girl, who adored him. His final act of rejection led to him being cursed by the deity of retribution, Nemesis. He fell in love with his own reflection in the water, which inadvertently led to his death. Accounts vary on the circumstances which brought Narcissus to his watery death, and even the cause of his death differs; he either drowned himself trying to embrace the image, starved to death or killed himself for being unable to accept this love. Either way, a flower grew from the spot he died, which was named the "narcissus."
"A young man of Greek lore. He rejected the nymph Echo, who faded to a whisper out of despair. Cursed by Nemesis, he fell in love with his own reflection and wasted away, becoming the flower that now bears his name."
