Mute removes the ability of either an afflicted demon or the game's protagonist to cast magic.
While Mute has always had the same general effect, the exact mechanics vary slightly between games and that also extends to Mute going under multiple different names, and hence this page being a union of multiple different ailments of similar effects, such Close (クローズ, Kurouzu)?, Silence , Seal (封技, Fuu-Waza)? and Forget (忘却, Boukyaku)?.
Mute prevents the afflicted character from using certain skills, typically magic.
Shin Megami Tensei NINE[]
Mute prevents the afflicted character from using magic and can stack with other status ailments.
Shin Megami Tensei V[]
Seal prevents the afflicted character from using any skill except their basic physical attack.
Enemies with Seal will waste turns attempting to use skills until the ailment wears off.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers[]
Seal prevents the afflicted character from using magic.
In the 3DS version, Seal lacks an icon in the HUD.
Megami Ibunroku Persona[]
Mute gives the afflicted character a chance to fail to use their Persona. It can be stacked, increasing the chance of failure. At max level, the chance of failure is 100%.
Persona 3 / FES / Portable[]
The effects of Mute in the original Persona 3 games were renamed into Panic.
In Persona 3 Reload, the Confusion ailment had been remade to have its usual effects, removing Mute from the ailments listing.
Persona 4 Arena / Ultimax[]
Mute (commonly called Silence) disables Persona-related abilities for the afflicted character. This includes things like C and D attacks, Bursts and some specials and supers.
Mute disappears after a set period of time or until the muted character hits the opponent.
Persona 5 / Royal[]
Combatants inflicted with Forget are unable to summon their Persona, and in turn are unable to cast any Persona skills, although their Passive Skills stay active. The combatant may only be able to perform basic commands. Enemies will attempt to use skills, but they will waste their turn doing so. Although the protagonist is unable to swap his Persona, enemies with multiple Personas are not restricted from doing so, but they are only able to swap out their affinities.
In Royal, Forget is instantly cured upon being attacked. Forget is also susceptible to Technical damage against Psychic skills. Additionally, if Knowing the Heart has been read, Electric attacks will also deal Technical damage against Forget.
Party members afflicted with Forget will not be able to cast Persona-related Combo Attacks and Master Arts, nor will they be able to trigger their Showtimes.
Persona 5 Tactica[]
Forget lasts for one turn and is not removed if attacked while inflicted. Enemies inflicted with forget cannot use any attacks.

The Nahobino can take on a demon's affinity chart via Essence Fusion, including that demon's affinity to how they deal with Seal.
