Profile[]
Persona 5: The Phantom X[]
YUI is someone the protagonist meets when he first logs in an online MMO game named Marutoku’s Virtual World. She is noted to be extremely passionate about farming, and tries to buy the land that the protagonist obtains as a bonus. After a negotiation, the two agree to co-own the land and use it for farming. Throughout their cooperation in farming and interaction when enjoying other in-game contents, the protagonist and YUI have gradually developed a friendship.
Behind the screen, YUI's operator is a lady named Musubi Matsukata, who works as a system engineer in an IT company with its office located in Shibuya. Musubi was born in a farmer's family in a countryside, and came to Tokyo to earn a living as she couldn't find a good job other than doing farming in her hometown. However, since she found a job in the current company, she has been overwhelmed by the heavy workload, sometimes even does not have time for a proper meal. Hence, she starts playing Marutoku’s Virtual World and play as YUI to release her pressure and recollect her affection of farming.

Trivia[]
- YUI is the first Phantom Thief with her appearance in the Metaverse being based on her virtual avatar instead of her real self. This is because Wonder doesn’t meet the real YUI until late into her Synergy route, so his cognition only knows the virtual YUI.
- In-game models reveal that her real name is written as "松方 結 (Matsukata Musubi)" and her position is written as SE, referring to her occupation in reality as a system engineer.
- The kanji for her first name Musubi, 結, can also be pronouced as yui in Japanese, hence it is a play of word she does for her avatar name.
- The name of the MMO game that YUI and the protagonist play, Marutoku Virtual World, is also a play of word. The kanjis for Marutoku are 丸得 in Japanese, as used in the Chinese translated name 丸得虚拟世界. Meanwhile, 丸得 is pronounced as wan-de in Chinese, which resembles the protagonist's code name Wonder.
- In her character profile, YUI's gender is listed as "???". This is likely to conceal the identity of her operator and to reflect the fact that her image is based on the protagonist's cognition of her virtual avatar, instead of her real self.
