Merrows are Merfolk from Scottish and Irish lore, they appear human from the waist up but have the body of a fish from the waist down. They have a gentle, modest, affectionate and benevolent disposition. Merrows can become attached to humans and even marry them, but most eventually long for home and return to the sea. Merrow-maidens are known to lure young men to follow them beneath the waves where they live in an enchanted state. One of the kings of the Fomorians was ripped apart by the Merrows.
