Megami Tensei Wiki

This page is the Manual of Style for the MegaTenWiki. This page will give an idea of how to write articles so they are consistent with many of the similar articles.

General

  • New articles should be named according to the subject's official name. In the case of multiple character names, the original Japanese name gets priority. In the case of concepts, if an official name exsists, use it, if not, use the Japanese term.
Example: Kotowari should be Reason. Kagenuki should not be an unofficial name such as "Shadow Extractions" or "Shadow Pulling".
  • The first line in the intro should be about the subject of the article, and the subject has to be written in bold. This is only for the first sentence about the subject. Please note that the first line should be written with the definite article and the topic is regarded as a singular entity, except for certain cases. The exception is for Character pages, in which all information is categorized and should not be bold.
See Maki Sonomura for an example.
  • The definite article (the) and indefinite articles (a/an) should be avoided in article titles except if they are used in an official title/name.
  • Avoid using the second person pronoun (you) in articles except for strategies and quotes.
  • Articles created should be limited to the Megami Tensei sphere. Real world references such as voice actors and game developers should be linked to its page in Wikipedia. Creating real world articles should be limited to only when it will create a better, more detailed article then is featured on Wikipedia and it must be entirely Megami Tensei centric.
  • The language of the wiki is English; spelling and grammar must be concise and clear. We have no definite preference on spelling between British English or American English, but if a word is spelled one way, e.g. "color", leave it as it is. The editor who writes the entry decides the spelling.
  • All game titles should be italicized, except for the article title (there's no coding for that anyway).
  • No abbreviations.
  • Use numbering as according to official sources.
  • Wikilinking is limited to the first occurrence of the word or phrase.
  • For images, official concept art if preferred, if at all possible. Clear images, such as those from the Kaneko Works should be used for the larger image of the demon or character, with all other art or screenshots placed in a gallery section. See Arahabaki

Games

  • Use only official names for the title. The title should always be the official Japanese title, unless an official English equivalent title appears.
E.g. The game "Revelations: Persona" should be named "Megami Ibunroku Persona". "Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou tai Chouriki Heidan" should be named "Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. The Soulless Army" with no Shin Megami Tensei on the front since it is not actually part of the Shin Megami Tensei sub-series.
  • Avoid using acronyms such as SMT or DDS. The first reference to a game should correspond to the official title on its article. Subsequent references can be shorted, such at Persona for Megami Ibunroku Persona or Raido Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army instead of Devil Summoner: Raido Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army.
  • General sections:
    • Story - plot of the story, make it as spoilerific as possible
    • Gameplay - any suggestions?
    • Characters - Include short description of the character, and then a link to the character's page
    • Locations - any suggestions?
    • External links - priority to official websites.
  • Place relevant navigational templates at the bottom of the article.
  • Games must be categorized under Category:Games

Characters

  • Character pages should include as much information as possible. Always include pictures when able.
  • General Sections:
    • Appearances: A list of all appearances the character has made.
    • Biography: This should start will a bulleted list of things like Age, Initial Persona, Weapons, Arcana, as well as other basic biographical information. Should the character appear in multiple titles, subsections should exist for each game the character appears in.
    • Historical Information: This section should be about a demon's actual historical information. It should always come last, but before the navigational template.
  • Relevant navigational templates should be at the bottom. For Personae and Demons, it should be a Arcana or Demonic clan template and not the navigational template for the games they appear in. Otherwise, Jack Frost would have billions of templates.
  • Demons should bear the name of their Clan, Race or Class in each respective game they have one. In the case of games with English releases, use the English Race or Clan. In the case of games without US releases, use the Japanese name of the Clan. This is because many clans lack official translations, and are not necessarily equal to clans or races in another game. If a translation patch exists for a game, the clan name's translated version can be placed in parentheses next to the Japanese name for user-friendliness.
  • Characters should always be added to their appropriate categories.

Categories

  • Categories should follow the hierarchy presented below:

Category: Games - root category for all games

  • all categories under here follow the full title of the game
    • e.g Category: Persona 3

Category: Characters - root category for all characters

Category: Megami Tensei Characters
Category: Shin Megami Tensei Characters
Category: Devil Summoner Characters

Category: Megami Tensei Wiki - root category for administration and stuff

Category: Images - root category for images

Category: Characters Images - root category for character images
  • all categories below are sorted according to the game a character appears in. Follow the full game title.
    • e.g. Category:Persona 3 Character Images

So, for example,Maki Sonomura would have a category of Category:Megami Ibunroku Persona Characters without having Category:Characters. Category:Characters is reserved for the overall root for all characters on the wiki, not the characters themselves. Categories start with the specific article and work their way up to the root category. The same is true of images and other related material.

Images should be categorized in the same manner. Images should not be categorized in general article categories, such as Category:Emperor Arcana instead, it should be in Category:Emperor Arcana Images and Category:Persona 3 Persona Images

Artwork

  • A single box art, preferable the agreed best-looking one, should be placed at the top of the game's article. All other box art should be place at the bottom of the page above the navigation template.
  • Please Note: This policy is currently in a trial state. Please let us know in the discussion how you feel about the way it looks

Style

For consistency, try to refer to things following these guidelines:

  • Persona is a proper noun. The plural form of Persona is Personae.
