Materials (素材*)? / (材料*)?, or specifically called Infiltration Tool Materials (潜入道具の材料*)? in Persona 5 are types of items in the series.

Persona 4/Golden[]
In Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden, materials are obtained by slaying Shadows.
Persona 5/Royal[]
In Persona 5, they are explicitly used for crafting Infiltration Tools, and they're consumed upon doing so.
Materials are generally required as a drop chance when slaying enemies. Specific Shadows can drop 1 specific material type. They can also be found via Search Objects in Mementos. The only place where no materials can be dropped is in the Depths of Mementos, as it's the last active day of the game. In Persona 5 Royal, Search Objects in Palaces can also yield materials.
Over time, it becomes possible to buy materials straight from shops.
