Masa is a character from Persona 5: The Phantom X.
Appearances[]
- Persona 5: The Phantom X: Supporting Character
Personality[]
Masa is a kindhearted man man who helped Shun Kano when he used to work with him at Victory Kitchen. Like Shun, Masa is also an apprentice of Yamagoshi, the owner of Heritage Kitchen, and Masa played a hand in training Shun as well, making him Shun's senior. He was the one who instilled Shun pride in their restaurant's signature flavor. When Miyazawa had control over the restaurant, Masa was forced to swallow much of his pride as a chef and change the recipe to cut costs, which becomes a mild point of contention between him and Shun. During his time, Masa is shown to be burdened and conflicted, feeling frustrated and remorseful over the state of the food he is made to serve, and for having to kick customers out at Miyazawa's whims, but was largely powerless to do anything about it. Despite this, he retains his loyalty and integrity towards Yamagoshi and Shun, and does what little he can to support both of them. He shows a lot of concern for Shun, and does not want the young man to blame himself for what had happened to his restaurant and Yamagoshi, but worries that intervening or even seeing him might make Shun feel worse.
In his youth, he was something of a delinquent.

"Mission 2: Outcome of Pride"[]
When the protagonist, Lufel and Motoha Arai are celebrating their first success at Victory Kitchen, with Shun Kano questioning Masa the flavor of ramen before leaving, Hiromu Miyazawa the food critic makes his way into the restaurant and forcibly asks him to empty the restaurant for shooting his show earlier than planned by threatening him because he was so impatient about it. He apologizes profusely to the customers who have not finished their meals yet. After the shooting, he reluctantly offers money to Miyazawa so that the restaurant will not be stroke again by Miyazawa's harsh reviews.
When he recognizes Motoha and the protagonist as the customers the other day, he apologizes to them for making them leave the restaurant. Masa explains to them what happened among Shun, himself, Yagamoshi and Victory Kitchen, and asks the two to get along with Shun if possible.
Later, Masa is present during the Flavor Fight, in which Shun is given the challenge to satisfy Miyazawa with a bowl of ramen he makes. After Shun manages to make the perfect Victory Kitchen-style ramen, he witnesses how Miyazawa gets deeply touched by it but soon regrets his words. He chooses to stand on Shun's side and claims that Shun has won the fight with no doubt, but still cannot stop Miyazawa.
After the completion of stealing his treasure and changing Miyazawa's heart, Masa regains full control of Victory Kitchen and continues his operation normally. Upon completing Mission 2, the city activity in which the protagonist takes the challenge to finish eating a large bowl of ramen is unlocked, with Masa hosting the challenge.
"Mission 3: Unconditional Love"[]
Masa reveals that he used to be a delinquent when he was in high school. He became friend with Kumi Katayama during this time, who was also a student at the time. She was famous among the locals as the rushing bicycle rider with the nickname "Lightning Legs" to indicate her incredible speed. The two have remained in touch since high school.
