The protagonist, Maki, and Mark meet Maria as she is attacked by a group of demons. She, just like them, is trying to escape from the parallel world using the device at the top of the tower. The trio decides to take her with them and climb up the tower while searching for their other friends. At the top of the tower, it is revealed that the girl they knew as Maria is a demon called The Destroyer. She has become bored and wants to escape the tower but could not use the orbs herself. She waited for them to activate the device to try to escape and cause destruction in the human world.
She engages in battle with the group, who defeat her and her two forms. She is destroyed, and in her final moments she calls out that all she wanted to do was go to the human world.
It's possible to use a Repulse Bell, which gives the party a 25% chance to escape battle, to escape Maria's second form. The game will then progress as if the party had won the fight.
