Mandrake, also known as Mandragora, is a demon in the series.

History

A Mandrake, also known as a Mandragora, is a poisonous plant that grows from the graves of guilty dead men. In legend, if pulled from the ground, it makes a sound like scream of a dying child which is so horrible it either deafens or kills the person pulling it. It was generally used in all kinds of potions that promised amazing properties such as invulnerability, invisibility or immunity to the undead.

Shin Megami Tensei IV

Mandrake can be found in Shinjuku National Park. It can teach Flynn the Shibaboo and Patra skills through its Demon Whisper.

Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse

Mandrake may be found in the Kinshicho south exit shopping district near the beginning of the game. It can teach Nanashi the Shibaboo, Poisma and Patra skills through its Demon Whisper.

Shin Megami Tensei V

A group of three Mandrakes appear as a miniboss inhabiting the Abscess in Mita. The protagonist must defeat them in order to proceed to Tokyo Tower, as the Abscess is directly in his path.

Later, a Mandrake in Shiba Park will request that the protagonist punish some Azumi that have taken over a watering hole and cut off access to the Mandrakes. They request that the protagonist defeat 5 Azumi. Completing the "Pollution Panic" subquest will net the Yoma Talisman as a reward.

During the "The Root of the Problem" subquest, a Silky will request that the protagonist gather 8 Mandrake Roots in order to replenish her medicine stock. These Mandrakes will appear north of the Fairy Village in Gotenyama.

Persona 3

While not a Persona in this game, Mandragora appears as the name of the karaoke bar in Paulownia Mall where the male and female protagonists can raise their Courage attribute.

Persona 5

Mandrake is the first Persona of the Death Arcana and can be found as a Shadow in Kamoshida's Palace, with the title "Gallows Flower." After the destruction of the Palace, Mandrake can only be found in Mementos' Path of Qimranut and Aiyatsbus. Mandrake is the first Persona to learn Pulinpa, Energy Drop and Skull Cracker. When itemized through Electric Chair execution, Mandrake produces an Energy Drop skill card.

Royal

Mandrake cannot learn Skull Cracker via level up anymore. When itemized through Electric Chair execution, Mandrake will now yield a Sukunda Skill Card. During a fusion alarm, Mandrake will yield a Masukunda Skill Card instead.

Mandrake is considered an Upbeat female Shadow, and thus, is affected by Ryuji's Punk Talk and Ann's Girl Talk.
