Manaka Nagao is a character in Persona 5: The Phantom X.

Design[]
Manaka has pale skin, shoulder length black hair with a feather shaped hair clip on the left side and pale purple eyes. She wears a short, blue cardigan over a white dress with a black ribbon fastening the bodice with lace above the hem, white socks with green zigzag stripes and shoes with many open panels. She uses a wheelchair in the initial Synergy Rank.
Ange wears a tiara with a round purple gem on the crown of her head, a mask with a blue part above her brow, feathery tufts at the sides secured with round gems a different shade of purple and a blue and white ribbon at the back of her head. Her dress has a white collar with a black stripe in the middle, a heart shaped gem, detached sleeves, a blue bodice, a silver button, white tights, black high-heels and white lacy tails. She holds a white microphone.
Personality[]
Manaka feels insecure about strangers, she tries to commit suicide because her desires were robbed from her by the man who was harassing her online. After meeting the protagonist, she regains her confidence.

Persona 5: The Phantom X[]
Manaka Nagao is Chizuko Nagao's granddaughter who loves singing. Her voice is noted to be beautiful and calming tunes by her grandmother.
Prologue: Discover the Secret World[]
At the beginning of the Prologue, when the protagonist is walking out of the school, he sees Manaka pass by listlessly. Later, when he is waiting for the train at the platform, he suddenly sees Manaka jump off a building in a viewable distance. Shocked by the accident and other people showing an indifferent attitude, the protagonist has an instant thought of doing something for her, but soon gives up. At this point, the protagonist starts having an abnormal and horrible feeling that something is wrong, which foreshadows his potential power. Right before the battle with Shedim, it was revealed that the reason for Manaka jumping was because her desires were robbed by it.
Side Mission: Conveying the Notes from the Heart.[]
Through Chizuko's conversation with the protagonist, it is revealed that Manaka has survived the fall, but sustained serious injuries which means she can't walk until her legs are healed so she has to use a wheelchair while recovering.
When she and her grandmother went out, Manaka apologizes to the protagonist while telling him her problems before the accident. One of those problems is a man named Shinta Saito who was stalking and harassing her about her singing a cover of a song on the internet out of a jealous grudge and resentment because he did not reach her level anymore, which causes her mental breakdown. When going the jazz club with grandmother to perform, Shinta, who is one of the audience, comes threatening Manaka by talking down to her saying she should not be singing at all and she has no talent, which cause her to have a breakdown, but Chizuko grabs Shinta by the shirt telling him off stating she has the right to sing and she does have talent and Manaka says she will work hard to sing again. Shinta angrily and stubbornly believes he is the right one and stormed off. Thanks to the change of heart, the very remorseful Shinta apologizes the her for his hateful remarks towards her songs and to her, while explaining why did what did, he says he realizes what he did to her was wrong after his attitude changed, and will cheer for her from now on and now she regains her confidence.
When she and Chizuko when shopping, she got new clothes.
Etymology[]
- Manaka (愛歌) consists of an alternate reading of the kanji for "love/beloved" (愛) (mana) and "song" (歌) (ka), tying into her passion for singing.
- Nagao (長尾) consists of the kanji for "long" (長) (naga) and "mountain foot" (尾) (o).
Trivia[]
- Ange's Finishing Touch reads "Et Misericordia" which translates to "The Mercy" in Latin.
