Names in brackets are used in the original English release of the game, while the others are used in the HD Remaster. If a skill has no name in brackets, then it was left unchanged between releases.

Physical Skills[]

  • Most physical skills which target random/multiple enemies deal 1~2 hits when only 1 target is present. Otherwise 1~3 hits may distribute on a single target of 5 hits maximally.
  • "E & I," "Sacrifice" and "Andalucia" deal 1~2 hits on single target of 4 hits maximally.
  • "Dodge" column denotes the likelihood of the skill being dodged by the target. The higher the dodge rate of the skill, the higher chance the target will dodge the skill.

Magic[]

  • Apart from a few special skills, most magic-based skills are cast with an MP, or Mana Point expenditure. The damage inflicted by Magic-based attacks are based on a demon's Magic stat.
  • Power of HP damaging spells take user's current level and base level into account, but the formula is not simply the higher level the more powerful. Assuming the magic stat of the spell user and the defense of the target without modified stat are constant, as the user's level is getting higher, the resultant damage rises gradually but begins to drop at one point. Damage typically peaks around level 27, after which the user must actively put points into Magic in order to prevent it from dropping. Exceptions to this include the Demi-Fiend's Magma Axis, Surt's Ragnarok and Wind Cutter, which have notably later "peaks."
    • The recovery amount of HP healing spells (except for Diarahan, Mediarahan and Prayer) always scale with current level and does not decay like the HP damage spells.

Ice Skills[]

Skills based on the element of ice. They can sometimes cause freeze. A frozen unit is immobilized, has all physical resistances including repel and drain nullified temporarily and receives 100% critical damage from physical attacks. Freeze status only lasts until turn swap.

Buffs[]

Buff spells revolve around improving all allies' Attack, Magic, Defense or Agility stats. All Buff effects can be stacked up to four times only. For example, casting a fifth Tarukaja will not have any effect, as the limit has already been reached. Buff effects will persist until it has been nullified with Debuff/Canceler spells, or when the battle ends.

Debuffs[]

Debuff spells revolve around decreasing all enemies' Attack, Magic, Defense or Agility capabilities. All Debuff effects can be stacked up to four times only. For example, casting a fifth Tarunda will not have any effect, as the limit has already been reached. Debuff effects will persist until it has been nullified with Buff/Canceler spells, or when the battle ends.

Canceler skills revolve around negating all Buff increase/Debuff penalties. Canceler skills instantly nullify all Buff/Debuff effects regardless of how many times they have been stacked. The only Buff skill that ignores Canceler skills is Focus.

Shields[]

If the ally demon after surviving via Endure is withdrawn back to stock and summoned to battle again, Endure can be activated again in the same battle. This loophole can happen infinitely, but it does not benefit the Demi-fiend himself.

Conversation Skills[]

Conversation skills revolve around requesting demons to join your ranks. Conversation skills take up a skill slot but generally do not cost any HP/MP to use. Conversation skills have a wide range of effects, ranging from recruiting demons to loaning you macca. These skills have a higher chance of working if the Demi-fiend's level is higher than the targeted demon.

  • All conversation attempts only work in random encounter.
  • Instant success and adverse effect of each active conversation skill have their own activating odds. If neither effect is triggered for whatever reason, the conversation will go on normally.
  • During the conversation, the target may become either indecisive, unsatisfied, or angered by the party's response. These may result in the target either making more demands, fleeing from battle (may or may not make some sort of compensation for the party), or causing instant shift to the enemy turn. Interruption skills are designed to be triggered by these situations.
  • If the target requests to "share health", it always drains HP from the one who initiates the conversation. Should the talker being killed in the HP draining demand, the conversation will end abruptly.
  • Few demons have special conversations with specific targets, these also require the talkers to have any active conversation skill already learned. The special conversation of any combination is triggered the first time the party initiates the conversation and overrides the effect of the conversation skill itself. Each special conversation is one time only, attempting to initiate the same special conversation again will result in resuming the usual effect of the conversation skill, as if the talker and the target do not know each other.
  • If there is more than one enemy present in the battle, one of them may interrupt the conversation attempt and cause instant turn swap, so it is safer to kill the rest of the enemies until the target remains before starting any conversation.

Recruit Skills[]

  • Recruiting a demon requires Demi-fiend's own level to be equal to or higher than the target, otherwise the target will cut off the conversation instantly. Other than that all trade skills do not take level as a requirement of proceeding the conversation.
  • Only demons of Neutral tendency respond to recruitment conversation normally, these include demons of the Beast, Brute, Divine, Fairy, Fallen, Femme, Jirae, Night, Snake and Yoma clans.
  • During Full Kagutsuchi phase, all Neutral demons including some Dark demons (Foul, Haunt and Wilder) will have their response to recruitment conversation overridden. They may either completely ignore the conversation attempt, or ask a nonsensical question. If the demon is pleased by the answer which is completely random, it will reward the player, either by joining the party for free or giving random items or Macca.
  • Unless an instant recruit effect is triggered, the target may ask an ideological question. If the target is satisfied by the answer, it will always join the party. However, the response to ideological question seems to be random as well. The same demon can be discontented by either answers for the same question.

Demi-fiend exclusive[]

Jive Talk Allows Demi-fiend to recruit Foul/Haunt/Wilder clan demons under normal circumstance, instead of relying on encountering a 'dazed' demon during full Kagutsuchi phase.

Allied demon exclusive[]

  • Instant recruit means the Demi-fiend may recruit the target without giving away anything or answering any inquiry if the said condition is met.
  • Adverse effect means the target is enraged if the said condition is met, it instantly ends the conversation and shifts to enemy turn. However, this does not prevent the party from talking to the same demon again.

Trade Skills[]

  • The Demi-fiend's level is irrelevant in initiating any trade skill.
  • Trade skills also work on Element, Tyrant, Vile and Raptor demons who otherwise decline recruitment conversation.
  • Instant bargain means that the Demi-fiend may obtain something without giving away anything when the condition is met.
  • The target would never ask any ideological question as in the recruitment conversation.

  • Failed interruption has no adverse effect on the conversation.
