| Leon Strohl da Haliaetus | Party |
"Thank you, <Protagonist>. "Hope is only a step behind a clear conscience." My parents' mantra has never been more clear to me. You keep moving forward. Do what you know to be just. And I will be just a step behind, no matter what. Look back, and you will find hope. Don't forget that."
Leon Strohl da Haliaetus, known simply as Strohl, is a major playable character in Metaphor: ReFantazio. He is of the populous clemar tribe and the son of the fallen noble family of Halia.
Appearances[]
- Metaphor: ReFantazio: Playable Character; Follower (Warrior Archetype)
- Metaphor: ReFantazio (Manga): Major Character
Design[]
Strohl is a tall young man with shaggy silver hair and gray eyes. As a clemar, he has distinctive horns. Only seen when bathing in the hot springs in Altabury Heights, he has a tattoo of an osprey on his left bicep and a heart-shaped necklace.
His attire consists of a white dress shirt with ruffled sleeve cuffs, black pants with a gray belt, a long white cravat and brown boots. When out and about, he will also don a yellow embroidered jacket which has the crest of House Haliaetus upon its back. He keeps the scabbard for his greatsword strapped to his back with a brown belt along with a traveling bag.
Personality[]
Strohl is a competent and intelligent man with a strong sense of justice who treats everyone equally, not letting his noble title influence his views. That being said, he has a sharp tongue and can be witty or sly if the situation calls for it. He also has a brutally sarcastic side when it comes to dealing with arrogant folk and standing up for others. Sometimes he bites off more than he can chew, such as when he criticized the deceased Hythlodaeus V's idealism, admitting that "his mouth tends to get ahead of his thoughts." His emotions, too, get the better of him, such as when he confronts Louis Guiabern about his hand in the human's attack on Halia. He was taught that his status comes with the responsibility to serve the needs of his people and is fiercely loyal towards those he considers to be his subjects. Thus, Strohl is a firm believer in the concept of noblesse oblige, that the nobility has a duty to protect their people rather than exploit them.
As seen in the manga Strohl can take his pride as a noble a little too far so much so that Will points out to him that there is a line between kind and stupid. an example is when Will lost his fantasy novel book and Strohl went into a sandworm pit at night, despite it being incredibly dangerous, simply to retrieve it.
Profile[]
"I... I'm Leon Strohl. Just a fallen noble from the countryside. Back there, Klinger mentioned a village that was razed by a human. They sent for help, but he abandoned them. Halia was its name. I'm the son of its lord. And now I know what really happened. We sent our fastest riders, but... we were doomed from the start. If Louis was behind it... then that's all I need to know. He's the one who'll answer for it."
Strohl was born to a noble family overseeing the village of Halia and mostly lived a carefree life as a child. Everything changed however on the June 1st seven years prior to the events of the game, where Halia was burnt to the ground by a human attack orchestrated by Louis to intimidate the populace and gain popular support, the first of many such attacks to come. Though they requested backup, no solider ever arrived, as Captain Klinger had secretly withheld reinforcements on Louis' orders. Strohl's parents died while trying to evacuate citizens. This experience left Strohl with a burning animosity towards humans.
Prologue[]
Strohl first applies for a position as a soldier: though Captain Klinger mocks him for his noble status, Strohl responds with sarcasm to his ignorance.
He first meets the protagonist at the recruitment centre in Grand Trad while enrolling for the State Army, standing up for him against a prejudiced roussainte who wants to cut in line for an igniter, insisting he has "priority." Strohl, however, insists race doesn't matter and demands the man apologize, only for the captain to interrupt their fight and force the roussainte man to back down.
Upon reaching the Northern Border Fort, Strohl and the protagonist discover a human running rampant and killing the soldiers, prompting the two to seek out survivors. They find Homo Gorleo atop a tower and engage in battle with it, though they are severely outclassed. On his righteousness as a noble, Strohl sacrifices himself to try and save the protagonist but survives due to the protagonist awakening to his Archetype, the Seeker.
Strohl is especially shaken by the discovery that Klinger refused to do anything to protect his home village, triggering his awakening to his own Archetype, the Warrior. After realizing Louis is responsible and hearing from Grius that Louis tried to assassinate the prince, he officially joins the protagonist and Grius' cause to kill Louis.
