The Justice Arcana (正義, Seigi)? is a recurring Arcana in the Persona series.

Overview[]

"The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed.
To find the one true path, one must seek guidance amidst uncertainty..."
—Nyx Avatar, Persona 3

Portrayed as a woman holding a sword and balance, the Justice Arcana symbolizes a strict allegory of justice, objectivity, rationality and analysis. In tarot readings, it means that one will have to face a trial of their justice.

Gameplay-wise, the Personas of the Justice Arcana are commonly Personas excelling in Light-based affinities. Justice Personas are usually various orders of angels, and are otherwise deities of justice, order or vengeance. Up until Persona Q2, every Persona of the Justice Arcana that a protagonist of the setting could control, starting with 3, was an angel, mainly angels that are from the Divine Race, with a few Heralds further down the line. This streak was broken after Power, normally of this Arcana, swapped Arcana with godling Setanta, normally of the Emperor Arcana, and Saint Jeanne d'Arc making her debut in the Persona series.

Characters of the Justice Arcana are commonly concerned with matters of fairness, and otherwise are very stoic individuals, though they are prone to intense anger and taking drastic measures when pushed too far. The story of the Justice Arcana revolves around them settling with the natural unfairness of the world, which includes how other people act and even how they treat them. For example, Chihiro Fushimi, outright adamant in the matters of fairness, has a soft spot for her hobbies and her feelings for the protagonist.

It is common for them to have parental difficulties, often with their mothers deceased and a less-than-ideal relationship with their fathers if they have one, resulting in them being unusually mature and quick-witted for their age. The protagonist frequently helps them to make peace with themselves, coaxing them out of stoicism to reveal their true selves. Otherwise, characters of the Justice Arcana are misguided and require the support of others, hence why several characters of the Justice Arcana are younger children or teens.

The topic revolves around having specifically the grasp and understanding of right and wrong, and can navigates enforcement and obedience under the pretense of righteousness. It is by finding the confidence to be guided by others or one's own sense of justice how one can master the problem of the Arcana.

Appearances[]

List of Persona[]

In Megami Ibunroku Persona and Persona 2, this Arcanum corresponds to the Wargod race, though curiously enough the race did not actually debut until Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. In Persona 3, 4, and 5, this Arcanum instead corresponds to the Divine race, with a few Heralds.

Megami Ibunroku Persona[]

The player can guarantee a fusion accident resulting in a Justice Arcana persona by starting from a "hard reset" (as in, not already mid-game and loading a save or selecting "Return to Title") and performing a White Fusion after taking exactly 79 steps in an area where no enemies will attack, such as the Mikage Sun Mall.

According to the Persona World guide, the Justice Arcana equals the Wargod race. It is represented by Hidehiko Uesugi.

Persona 3[]

The Justice Arcana Social Link is represented by Chihiro Fushimi, a student of Gekkoukan High School. The protagonist can initiate the Social Link after starting out the Emperor Arcana Social Link, where Chihiro introduces herself as the treasurer of the Student Council.

The Justice Arcana Social Link powers up every time the protagonist interacts with Chihiro, where he helps her to overcome her androphobia. However, in the advancement from the eighth to ninth level of the Social Link, Mitsuru Kirijo must also be present, meaning the Social Link will not be able to rank up for a month period after the twelfth Full-Moon Operation.

Upon completing the Social Link, Chihiro will give the protagonist her cherished collection of Shoujo Manga, bestowing the ultimate form of the Justice Arcana, Melchizedek, the Hand of Justice.

The Justice Arcana is also the Persona Arcana of Ken Amada, a member of SEES.

Portable[]

The Justice Arcana is represented by Ken Amada, who is now a Social Link. However, his Social Link is only available for the female protagonist. Because of Ken's unsocial tendencies and the protagonist's conscientiousness, the maximum level of Courage is required to commence the Social Link.

Through interactions with her, Ken learns the meaning of being an adult and understanding his late mother's possible regrets for leaving her son behind. He also shows a more sensitive, but wary side to her in regards to the kindness of the SEES members and his struggle with his feelings for the protagonist in regards to their age difference.

After the events of the tenth full moon incident, an event will be triggered before continuing the Social Link. Ken will take the protagonist to the alleyway, where he reveals that despite his resolution, he's still in much pain from his actions, but promises his devotion to SEES.

Upon completion of the Social Link, Ken will give the protagonist his precious Silver Key, his house key that he kept even after his home was destroyed. It bestows Melchizedek just like for the Social Link with Chihiro.

Persona 4[]

The Justice Arcana Social Link is represented by Nanako Dojima, the protagonist's cousin. The Social Link is automatically initiated during the story. The Justice Arcana Social Link interactions availability are also parallel to the Hierophant Arcana Social Link; whenever Ryotaro Dojima is available, the protagonist will not be able to interact with Nanako and upgrade the Justice Arcana Social Link. Furthermore, there is also a deadline for interacting with Nanako; the Social Link will be unavailable to upgrade after November 5.

Through the protagonist's interaction with Nanako, he helps Nanako to cope up with her mother's death, as well as mending her strained relationship with her father. Similar to the Hierophant Arcana Social Link, some stages of the Social Link will require the protagonist's 'Expression' characteristic parameters to reach certain levels before the Social Link is able to continue leveling up.

Completing the Justice Arcana Social Link bestows the ultimate form of the Justice Arcana, Sraosha, the Scourge of Evil.
