"The fallen king embraced Sanctism and all its holy tenets, and for what? He was nothing before Lord Louis! Look to the sky all you wish... No God can save you! What our country needs... is power!"
—Glodell, Metaphor: ReFantazio

Idaeus Glodell is a character in Metaphor: ReFantazio. He is a young warrior of the roussainte tribe and Louis Guiabern's subordinate.

Glodell is an ambitious and hostile man obsessed with power, the platform of his election campaign. He both resents and admires Louis, wishing to simultaneously impress him and take his place.

Appearances[]

Design[]

Glodell is a tall, slim young man with pale skin and dark purple hair styled in an undercut. As a roussainte, he has distinctive large, long ears which he adorns with sharp piercings.

He wears black attire and boots under a long purple leopard print coat with black reptilian leather lapels and a matching sword belt. He accessorizes with a spiked piercing in his left ear, a gold igniter choker, barbed wire necklace and a gold necklace adorned with a miniature dagger, along with black half gloves.

Personality[]

Desperate for fame and arrogant to a fault, Glodell wants nothing more than to attain personal glory. His entire reason for joining Louis was to spread his name and gain the adulation of the masses. However, he is woefully incompetent, and constantly makes blunders in his attempts to attain his goals, such as when he attempted to present the head of a small human to appease the masses at Brilehaven, only to realize that most of the people had no idea what most humans looked like and thus had no way of proving the authenticity.

Glodell remains staunchly convinced that he is worthy of greatness, both arrogant and self-entitled. His ego runs so deep that he truly believes that he could eventually overthrow Louis with enough power. Despite his lofty self-confidence, he is also incredibly cowardly, being more than willing to gloat about his supposed power while holding Junah hostage, only to immediately grovel and beg for his life after she awakens to her Archetype and bests him with help from the protagonist. This trait ultimately proves to be his downfall when he attempts a sneak attack on the protagonist after being defeated, only to be stopped and promptly killed by the king's magic.

He does seem to genuinely care about his hound, Hector, as he never goes anywhere without him.

Profile[]

Glodell is an independent candidate working for Louis, who handles most of his work in the Tournament for the Throne in his place during the first half of the game.

The party first meets him clashing his gauntlet runner with Gideaux's, since the king's magic protects candidates from direct attacks, they instead attempt to destroy the other runner's legs and disable the transportation needed to meet the traveling deadlines in time. The party recognizes Glodell as having been an assistant to Louis, so they go in to help him fend off Gideaux to gain Louis' attention. Though the plan is successful, Glodell sulks about being overshadowed once again.

During the headhunt exhibit in Port Brilehaven, he presents the head of a small human and is summarily mocked and dismissed by the townspeople, as they have no idea what a human looks like. Glodell further falls out of Louis' favor when the party offers Sanctoress Joanna and Forden is forced to execute her for the optics, greatly pleasing Louis.

Later, Glodell discovers the protagonist and Junah sneaking into Louis' private chambers aboard the Skyrunner Charadrius and goes to report to Louis, failing to lock the pair inside. Pursuing him out onto the front deck, Glodell takes Junah hostage and has his hound Hector, corrupted by melancholia and newly transformed, attack the protagonist.

Junah taunts Glodell for having his dog do the fighting, claiming he's too scared to face the protagonist alone. Pride bruised, he initiates a duel and Junah teams up with the protagonist after awakening her own Archetype, the Masked Dancer. When Glodell is defeated, he pretends to beg for mercy only to attempt a sneak attack on the protagonist, causing him to be restrained and killed by the king's magic.

As there were no other witnesses to the incident, the protagonist and Junah get away with infiltrating the Charadrius by telling Louis that Glodell was a rat trying to sell him out.
