Hitokotonushi (一言主*)? in the Kojiki, is a mountain deity who is able to utter oracles of good or evil in a single word, or hitokoto. Kojiki relates the story of an emperor, accompanied by an entourage, who climbed Mount Katsuragi and meets another group who appears similar to his entourage. Enraged, the emperor demanded to know where they come from. The leader proclaimed himself as "hitokotonushi no okami." The emperor and his entourage then paid their respects by surrendering their clothes to the deity.
He is seen as the same as Kotoshironushi in some account. In the Noh play Katsuragi, Hitokotonushi is portrayed as a goddess instead of a male deity.
Hitokotonusi does not appear as a summonable demon, but appears when Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV casts the skill "Hitokoto Storm," which deals heavy Force damage to all enemies. This skill is the equivalent of the "Whirlwind" skill used by Dante, who is replaced by Raidou in the latest version of the game.
Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse[]
"Japanese god of words, thought to be the deification of echoes. In the Kojiki, Emperor Yuraku's party supposedly encountered Hitokotonushi at Mt. Katsuragi. Said to proclaim good and bad in a single word. All words uttered by him come true."

Hitokotonushi can teach Nanashi the Mahamaon, Dekunda, Purple Smoke and Tetraja skills through his Demon Whisper. He benefits from learning Light, support and Electricity skills.

Hitokotonusi is the seventh demon of the Wind Order and appears as the boss of Episode 7 in the Dark Realm of Fukagawa-Cho. He has placed a curse on the admiral of the Japanese navy which was then transferred to Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV, in order to find its source and remove it. Raidou defeats him and removes the curse. Hitokonusi will declare his support of the Super Soldier Project before attacking Raidou, declaring Raidou evil for standing in the way of the project.
Hitokotonusi will appear in various forms throughout the battle, appearing similar to Anzu, Orthrus and Poltergeist. He will be weak to one strike of Fire in his normal form, Electricity in his Anzu form and Ice in his Orthrus form before taking normal damage from each attack. This means Raidou must be prepared to capitalize on his stunned state once the attacks hit.
Thoth is a demon well prepared for this fight, as Hitokotonusi will use a variety of elemental attacks throughout its forms, which Thoth can drain, and Thoth is able to place a gradual healing effect on Raidou through his Dia Aura skill. More caution must be taken once Hitokotonusi reached his Orthrus and Poltergeist forms, however, as he will begin using Physical and Death skills respectively, which Thoth is weak to. Moving out of range and calling Thoth to Raidou's side will generally make these attacks miss Thoth easily.
After being defeated, Hitokotonusi can be fused in the Gouma-Den.

Hitokotonusi spawns as in one of the last enemy waves as a boss enemy while the party escorts Yamato Hotsuin around the map. Hitokotonusi will become available for fusion only after his defeat.
