Harihara represents the unity of the Hindu gods Vishnu (Hari) and Shiva (Hara). Also known as the Shankara-Nayarana, Harihara's right half represents Shiva and the attributes it is associated with: destructive, terrifying and feminine, while the left half represent Vishnu as the pacifist, auspicious and masculine. Because worshipers believe each deity is the supreme being, the unity of the two represents the sacred ultimate power of the universe, supreme over all other gods. The exact nature of this unity is still debated among the Hindu philosophical schools.

Harihara is the Atma Avatar of Angel, the mysterious person that appeared at the top of the Karma Temple. When Serph and the rest of the Embryon confronted her in their attempt to rescue Sera, Angel assumed this demonic form. It could be said that Harihara represents the true nature of Angel.
There are three forms that Harihara took in the battle. The first one is a representation of Vishnu; a white-faced figure, while the second form is characteristic of Shiva; the fierce black-faced figure. These forms are switched over at certain intervals. The final form, a gargantuan being, is fought together with six elemental Cores; Earth Core, Fire Core, Wind Core, Water Core, Elec Core and Gold Core. Each core has 480 health and reflects its respective element. Each core has two attacks, the -dyne level single-target and weaker all-target magic attacks (or Skull Cleave and Power Wave, in Gold Core's case). So long as a given core is alive, Harihara is immune to that element.
